Canajoharie blanks Fort Plain CANAJOHARIE — Morgan Koelbl scored the first two goals of the game, as Canajoharie topped Fort Plain 8-0 in a Western Athletic Conference girls soccer game on Tuesday. Ariannah Logan, Jordyn Logan, Brittany Pitonza, Dainara Veeder, Katie Towse and Hannah Smith each also scored for Canajoharie, while Andrea Dingman made nine saves to record the shutout. Lauren Mayer had two assists for Canajoharie, while Ariannah Logan an Smith also had helpers. BOYS CROSS COUNTRY Colonial Council Fonda-Fultonville 23, Albany Academy 32 Fonda-Fultonville 26, Schalmont 33 The Braves picked up a pair of league wins, as Dylan DeSorbo paced the Braves with a third-place finish on the 3.0-mile course with a time of 18 minutes, 1.0 seconds. Damion Freeman finished right behind DeSorbo in the standings, taking 18 minutes, 20.0 seconds to complete the course. Other top-10 finishers for F-F included Dan Westman (eighth place; 19 minutes, 6.0 seconds), Cody Fancher (ninth place; 19 minutes, 7.0 seconds) and Clane Newcomer (10th place; 19 minutes, 36.5 seconds). Western Athletic Conference Mayfield 17, Mekeel Christian Inc. Mayfield 15, Cherry Valley-Springfield Inc. Josh Gallup took home first place in 18 minutes, 23 seconds over the 3.03-mile course as the Panthers swept the first four places en route to victory. Mayfield took seven of the top 10 places with Gallup, Connor Akowicz (second, 18:51), Josh Febbie (third, 19:41), Austin Davis (fourth, 19:56), Devonte Marshall (seventh, 21:13), Ryan MacFarland (ninth, 22:43) and Tyler Newkirk (10th, 22:43). Canajoharie/Fort Plain 21, Galway 40 Berne-Knox-Westerlo 28, C/FP 29 B-K-W 17, Galway 38 C/FP's Jon Payack took first place in Fort Plain with a time of 18 minutes, 12 seconds for the 3.05-mile course. C/FP's Andrew Hanifin finished in fourth place with a time of 20 minutes, 5 seconds. Kacie Hunter led the Lady Braves, finishing in second place with a time of 20 minutes, 53.0 seconds on the 3.0-mile course. Jamie Kasza took fourth, needing 21 minutes, 9.0 seconds. Hailie LaPratt (seventh place; 23 minutes, 2.0 seconds) and Lydia Brown (eighth place; 23 minutes, 37.0 seconds) also had strong races for F-F. Mayfield 15, Cherry Valley-Springfield Inc. The Lady Panthers swept the top six finishes, led by Maggy Lambo, who won the race in 24 minutes, 18 seconds over the 3.03-mile course. Maggy Lambo was followed by Molly Lambo (24:28), Emily Cromie (25:54), Kelsey Wasson (27:04), Juleh Nikollaj (27:08) and Emily Barker (27:09) in the top six for Mayfield. Western Athletic Conference Canajoharie/Fort Plain 28, BerneKnox-Westerlo Inc. C/FP 17, Galway Inc. C/FP's Alexis Kane (21 minutes, 42 seconds), Cheyenne Munson (22 minutes, 1 second) and Breanna Hazzard (22 minutes, 41 seconds) finished third through fifth to lead their team. Galway's top runner was Lindsey Carlson, who finished in seventh place with a time of 23 minutes, 52 seconds. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL Colonial Council Fonda-Fultonville 3, Albany Academy 0 The Lady Braves picked up their 12th win of the season with scores of 25-19, 25-10 and 25-15. Anne Sinicropi had 11 assists and eight aces to guide F-F, while Miranda Nethaway had nine kills and Gianna Cruz added six. Lexi Shannon had 11 kills for Albany Academy. Western Athletic Conference Canajoharie 3, Saratoga Central Catholic 1 The Lady Cougars picked up a win in four sets, 26-14, 25-27, 25-11, 25-18. Emma Stortecky had 18 assists, 13 aces and 10 digs to lead Canajoharie, while Ashley Darling compiled 13 digs, eight kills and seven aces. Jessica Hoyt added nine blocks for Canajoharie, and Gracie Adams and Frankie Nare each had four kills. Grace Fornabia had nine kills for Saratoga Catholic. — Staff report Three local golfers advance to Day 2 ALTAMONT — Three local high school golfers advanced Tuesday afternoon to Thursday’s Day 2 of the Section II ABCD Playoff. Amsterdam’s James Phelps, BroadalbinPerth’s Alex Bond and Northville’s Jordan Fordyce all made the cut playing at the Orchard Creek Golf Club, a par-71. Phelps shot a 75, good to tie him for second place; Fordyce was fourth with a 76; and, Bond was 12th with an 81. Broadalbin-Perth’s Brett Getman just missed the cut, scoring an 86; the cut was 83, and 22 players qualified. Northville’s Gavon Winn shot an 88. The players will return to Orchard Creek Thursday for a second round of action. After Thursday, the combined scores from each day will result in nine golfers qualifying for the state championships, played next May 30 and June 1.
