Selective High School Placement for 2016 Parent Information Session: To assist parents with any questions
they may have regarding Selective High School Placements for Year 5 students for 2016, a parent information
session has been organised for Tuesday 28 October 6.00-7.00pm. Anne Robertson from the High Performing
Students Unit will run the session and answer any questions.
Class Placement Requests 2015: Last week I requested that if as a parent you had any MAJOR concerns about
your child’s class placement for 2015 you send a letter outlining your concerns in an envelope marked
‘Confidential: Attention School Principal’. As we are commencing the process of organising classes for 2015 in the

Athletics Carnival: A reminder that the 3-6 Athletics Carnival will be held next Monday 20 August at Dunbar Oval.
There will be no canteen or sausage sizzle on the day so please make sure you child is sent to the Oval with
enough food and drink for the carnival. Field events will be run, so those students who qualified for the throwing
events should go to their area when their event is called. As the zone carnival has already passed there will be no
Denistone East team selected to advance on to the zone carnival. Unfortunately Epping Boys are unable to help
out on Monday so I will need some extra parents to assist with the running of some events and timekeeping duties.
If you are able to help, please come and see me at the start of the carnival.
Despite the weather forecast indicating light rain, I am hopeful we will be able to make it third time lucky. We hope
to see you down there.

Mandarin Choir Group 普通话儿童合唱团 (K-Year1): We started our Mandarin Choir
practice last Thursday with our Kindergarten and Year 1 students. It’s been a delight to see
so many young and energetic learners who are native Mandarin speakers and non-Mandarin
speakers showing excitement about learning new songs in Mandarin. Please remind your
child to wait for Ms Liang and Mr Treacy under the respective areas at the start of lunch with
their choir folder and lunch every Thursday. The lyrics of the songs have been put in your
child’s choir folder for them to practise at home. There is also a Youtube music video link
printed on the song note for you to view. Please kindly remind your child to bring in their choir folder every
Thursday. Thanks for your support on this!

News: Composer of the week: Richard Wagner 22 May 1813 – 13
February 1883. A German composer, theatre director, and conductor
who is primarily known for his operas. Unlike most opera composers,
Wagner wrote both the libretto (words) and the music for each of his
stage works. Wagner revolutionised opera through his concept of the
"total work of art", joining poetry, visual, musical and dramatic arts . A
great example of this is the first half of the four-opera cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of
the Nibelung). Other works include: Tristan and Isolde, Parsifal, The Flying Dutchman, The
Mastersingers of Nuremberg (this piece takes close to 6 hours to play so the audience and
performers have a dinner break in the middle.) Wagner is amazing to perform and unfortunately the Sydney Opera
House stage is too small for Wagner operas! The Opera had to move to the capital theatre to perform
Mastersingers!
