Welcome to term 4. I pray all students
enjoyed a relaxing holiday and have
made a great start to the new school
term. I am thrilled to welcome the
Nielsen and Roberts families and
look forward to the arrival of two
additional new families later this
term. I know they will be warmly
welcomed
into
our
School
community and we look forward to
getting to know both the students and
parents.
HSC and Examinations
Please continue to pray for our HSC
students as they commence their
examinations on Monday 13th
October and conclude on Wednesday
5th November. Our eighteen HSC
students are sitting for examinations
in over twenty subjects and we are
looking forward to seeing the fruit of
the hard work by students, staff and
parents. Year 7-10 students begin
their examinations in two weeks and
all students should already be hard at
work preparing to complete each
paper to the best of their ability. We
desire for all students to strive to
produce their best possible work, and
these examinations will be marked
with this in mind.

Grandparents day
Our annual grandparents’ day will be
held next week and we eagerly look
forward to hosting grandparents or
special friends from students in P-6. It
has always been a most enjoyable
afternoon and a great thrill for
students to host these special family
members in their classroom and to
serve afternoon tea. I am reminded of
the exhortation in proverbs that with
age comes wisdom, may our School be
a place that honours the wisdom that
usually comes with age.
Website and School Office
As mentioned in my last column Term
3, our School’s website is undergoing a
revamp to make it more user friendly
on tablets and mobile phones as well
as to update and revitalise. Thanks for
your patience as we develop a user
friendly and stylish design. I also hope
you have taken the opportunity to see
the new School Office with signage
upgrades, we pray this gives a very
welcoming feel for visitors and
families alike.

2014 has been a
fantastic year for
leaving SHCS…
…if you’re a Drama student, that is!
We’ve been blessed mightily in our
expeditions afield to see numerous
examples of professional theatre,
and have our minds enriched, our
souls satiated, and our fancies
tickled. August saw an expedition
north to the Sydney Opera House,
where – after a lazy lunch
overlooking the sun-spangled
waves of Sydney Harbour – we
were
treated
to
the
Bell
Shakespeare
production
of
th
Moliere’s 17 century comedy,
Tartuffe. A classic play, translated
from French and given a distinctly
Australian
flair,
its
biting
indictment of religious hypocrisy is
as apt today as it ever was.
Then in September, it was down
the mountain to the Illawarra
Performing Arts Centre for a
matinee
production
of
The
Importance of Being Earnest. The
students fought valiantly through
an army of senior citizens to the
front row, in order to enjoy the
antics of Jack and Algernon, and
Finally, on Wednesday evening
of this week, it was all a dream
– A Midsummer Night’s Dream,
to be precise. Bell Shakespeare
was touring, and we were
attending, swimming in the
fountain of eternal youth
flowing from the Bard’s pen. Or
quill. I don’t think Shakespeare
owned a ballpoint. Our Drama
students from Year 9 to 12 sat
enraptured as Puck engaged in
mischief, Bottom engaged in
slapstick, and the young lovers
just got engaged. All in all, a
wonderful night was had by
everyone.
2014 Drama has been so
invigorating. I can’t wait to see
what we get up to in 2015!

iPad News
As we consider the ongoing use
of ipads within our student
body, we want to advise
parents that as of Term 4, 2014
all damaged screens on schoolissued ipads will be repaired
and parents will be invoiced.
The most common damage is
broken screens which cost $100
to repair. This will ensure a
timely turn-around back to
students to make sure they are
not
without
necessary
equipment
for
class
work. Thank you for your
understanding in this matter.
Our second Book Fair for the
year is NEXT WEEK! For every
book purchased at the Book Fair
