The ushers will count the number of people attending Mass each time, but we need volunteers to count the number of people receiving Holy Communion. There is a clipboard with paper and pencil in the front pew of each of the eight sections of the Church. We need eight volunteers to count, and then write the number on the paper. The clipboard is left in the pew for the next Mass. Thank you for your assistance... All Souls Day, November 2nd, falls on a Sunday this year. Envelopes with names of deceased family and friends may be placed in the regular collection basket the next few weekends. These intentions will be remembered at all the Masses offered here at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel during the month of November. Additional envelopes are available at the doors of the Church. Because All Saints Day, November 1st, falls on a Saturday this year, it is not a Holy Day of Obligation. The regular schedule for Saturday will be: 8:00 in the morning and the Vigil Mass for Saturday at 5:00 pm. PARISH COUNCIL ELECTION An election for new members of the Parish Council to replace those who have completed their terms will take place in November. Any member of the Parish, eighteen years and older, who wishes to place their name for nomination, please call Fr. Sullivan or Mary Sacco, the Parish Secretary. Pro-Life Novena and Holy Hour…will be prayed Wednesday, October 22nd from 6-7 PM. Holy Hour includes Exposition of The Blessed Sacrament, Respect Life Rosary and Benediction. All are invited. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES... have begun. If you still need to register please contact Sr. Ann at 203-287-9017. Each Sunday, during the 10:00 AM Liturgy, children are invited to come downstairs for the Liturgy of The Word on their level. They return back upstairs at the time of the offertory. A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE "Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?" Knowing their malice, Jesus said, "Why are you testing me, you hypocrites? ? Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God." - Mt 22:17b-18, 21c Jesus was exasperated when He scolded: “Why do you put Me to the test?” It is natural for children to test parents; this is how they learn and how we must teach limits, rules and values. Be like Jesus in today’s Gospel; He was firm, honest and direct. Any boy or girl in the 4th grade or above, who wishes to be an Altar Server is invited to a meeting (along with a parent) on Sunday, November 15th at 9:00 AM in the Church. If you have any questions please call Deacon John 203-281-3563 *******SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE SCHEDULES******* Notre Dame High School, West Haven Open House-THIS Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 1-3 PM All are invited to attend! Blair The Connecticut Catholic Conference notes that, since 1919, the Catholic Church has been a longstanding advocate of universal, accessible and life-affirming health care. However, the HHS mandate of the Affordable Care Act harshly penalizes those employers who do not provide abortions and other contraception coverage for their employees. In its decision, the Supreme Court clearly reaffirms that freedom of religion is a basic fundamental right under our Constitution. If you haven’t done so already, please voice your opposition to the mandate by calling President Obama at the White House at 202456-1111 or U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Sylvia Mathews Burwell at 202-205-5445. Let them know that the mandate is in violation of our First Amendment right to religious freedom. sage from Matthew, "I will build my church"(16:18). Throughout the world, the Pontifical Mission Society spreads the good news of the Gospel far and wide. Let us pray, and offer our gift of support and money to the spread of the Gospel in faraway lands, and in our own cities and towns. Let us pray… Good and gracious God, we humbly ask Your blessings upon our brothers and sisters in lands far from us. Your Gospel message was handed to us through our parents and nurtured in our communities by priests, brothers, and sisters who have dedicated their lives to spread God's good news. Help us to be generous in our offering of monetary gifts to the Pontifical Mission Society. May our gifts continue the work of evangelization of countries throughout the world. We ask this in Christ's name, who is our brother and savior. Amen. Lector Workshop – November 1st 9:00 am – 12:30 pm St. Thomas Seminary, Bloomfield.
