New Mass Schedule will take effect on the weekend of Nov. 1&2. Mass at St. Joseph’s will be at 6:30 p.m .
on Saturdays, and Mass at St. Patrick’s will be at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays.
Inverness Pastoral Planning - Two important meetings to discuss the future of the parishes in the Inverness
Deanery will be held on Sunday, November 9: one for the southern part of the Deanery in Port Hood Parish
Hall at 3 p.m. and one for the northern part of the Deanery in the Parish Hall in S.W. Margaree at 7 p.m. These
meetings are to discuss some of the issues we are dealing with in our church, namely the demographic shifts
that we are experiencing in our area, the decrease in the number of Diocesan priests that we have to serve the
needs of the parishes in the Diocese and generally the change in attendance patterns that we are experiencing in
our parishes. At these meetings, we will discuss how we can best respond to these challenges. The meeting
will be led by the Diocesan Director of Pastoral Planning Fr. Donald MacGillivray. All parishioners are
encouraged to attend one of these meetings.
Youth Ministry Workshop – B.L.A.S.T. (Believing, Learning, and Serving Together) – As a follow-up to
the Renewal Congress, a group has been discussing aspects of youth ministry in our Diocese. We are planning
a gathering for all involved or would like to be involved with young people. The session will take place at St.
Joseph’s Parish, Port Hawkesbury on Sat., Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. John Stevens will be the guest
speaker, and he will review the components of youth ministry and facilitate discussion with adults and young
people. Each parish/pastoral unit is invited to send representatives/catechists so that we might make a greater
effort in reaching out to the youth of our Diocese.
St. Michael’s Cemetery Clean-up will take place on Saturday, Oct. 18 beginning at 9 a.m. Rain date is Oct.
25.
Wreath Making- The Evangelization and Vocations committee is planning a fall activity. On Nov. 15, we will
be making Christmas wreaths at St. Joseph’s Parish hall from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A member of St. Joseph’s
Parish will be demonstrating and guiding us. This is a family activity for all three parishes, so please sign up if
you wish to be included. There will be a fee to cover the cost of the materials. Lunch will be provided. For

St. Michael’s Youth Group (MFOCC) will be meeting Monday, October 20th at 7:30pm at St. Michael's
Parish Hall. Grades 7 to 12 are invited to attend.
2015 Sunday Missals are available. They are free of charge, but a donation would be appreciated.

Halloween Potluck – St. Patrick’s CWL will be having a potluck on Friday, Oct. 24 beginning at 4:30 p.m.
All proceeds will go to Development & Peace to fight Ebola.
St. Patrick’s, St. Michael’s – Membership dues are due now. St. Patrick’s, please pay $20 to Sheila Fortune
or Barbara Ross. St. Michael's CWL membership dues for 2015 ($20) may be paid to the councillor in your
area or to Anne LeBlanc now until Dec. 15th.
Shower for L’Arche - St. Patrick’s and St. Michael’s will host a shower for L’Arche on Sun., Nov. 2 at 2 p.m.
at St. Patrick’s Hall. Items requested are: bedding, towels, facecloths and toiletries. Items from St. Michael’s
can be dropped off at Dora’s in East Margaree. Please note change in time.
Mass at Inverary Manor is at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30 with bingo to follow. Anyone wishing to go to

Other & Community News
A share and support group for the bereaved has commenced to meet at St. Joseph Renewal Centre in
Mabou. The Group met for the first time on September 11, 2014 and intends to meet again on the 23rd of
October at 7 p.m.
Challenge Weekend – The next Girls’ Challenge will be held on November 14 – 16, 2014 at St. Joseph
Renewal Centre, Mabou. Apply early!
Antigonish Diocesan Society Annual Meeting will take place in the Knights of Columbus Hall (Cape Nova
Council) in Port Hawkesbury, on Sun., Oct. 26, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. The Antigonish Diocesan Society was
formed in 1942 with the help of the Knights of Columbus to provide financial assistance to young men wishing
to study for the priesthood. Since that time, the Antigonish Diocesan Society has helped hundreds of young
men, by providing thousands of dollars for their Priestly Educational Training. At the present time, there are
three seminarians: Joseph MacKenzie, Jordan MacKinnon and John Scott studying for the priesthood for the
Diocese of Antigonish. Please keep them in your prayers and keep praying for vocations to the priesthood and
religious life. All parishioners interested in the role of the Antigonish Diocesan Society are urged to attend and
participate in the annual meeting,
S.W. Margaree Senior Citizens October meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 22 at 2 p.m. at the
Seniors Hall at S.W. Margaree.
Thank you - St. Joseph’s Hall Committee wishes to thank all who helped to make the fall Fair a success – the

Thank You - The family of the late Leonard Lawrence LeBlanc would like to express our heartfelt thanks and
appreciation for all who came from near and far to celebrate his life. Your prayers, mass offerings, enrollments,
memorial donations, food, phone calls, sympathy cards and attendance at the visitation and the funeral mass

Development & Peace Fall Campaign – Materials are available for the Development & Peace Fall Campaign,

Afternoon of Music - St. Joseph Parish Confirmation Group and the Sisters of St. Martha invite you to an
afternoon of music starring The Shining Lights, from Halifax, 2pm, Sunday, October 19th, St. Joseph's Church,
Port Hawkesbury. The members of this singing group have either been homeless or at the risk of being
homeless. They are friends of the Sisters of St. Martha's Street Ministry. There is only one other group like
them and that is in Montreal. No admission fee. If you wish, you can make a donation for the Sisters' Street
Ministry.
The 21st annual XFM Hospital Help Day Raffle in aid of St. Martha’s Regional Hospital will take place

Ebola Epidemic - The worst Ebola epidemic in history is posing a quickly growing health crisis in three of the
poorest countries in the world. Nearly half of those who have been infected have died, bringing the number of
deaths from Ebola to more than 2900. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a global health
emergency. The Canadian Organization for Development & Peace is supporting Caritas Sierra Leone in a
project that will benefit 180 000 people. This project seeks to:
 improve knowledge, attitudes and behaviour concerning Ebola
 improve hygiene practices to reduce person to person transmission
 build trust through dialogue involving communities and health workers
 help solve the problem of denial within communities at risk and affected, and
 reduce the stigma of people suffering from Ebola or suspected of being infected.
Development & Peace is accepting donations which will assist Caritas Sierra Leone expand its programs to
control and prevent the spread of this disease.
Donations for this cause can be placed in the Sunday Collection in an envelope marked Development & Peace
– Ebola with your envelope number, if applicable, by November 2.
III Extraordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops
What is a synod? The word synod comes from the Greek meaning “walking together.” The Synod of Bishops is
a meeting of Bishops from all over the world, who gather around the Bishop of Rome in a spirit of collegiality
to thoughtfully reflect on topics that are of importance to the whole world. # Synod 14 is taking place in Rome
October 5-19. It was called by Pope Francis to address the pastoral challenges that families have to face today
in the context of evangelization. Through the process the Holy Father, along with the Bishops, can provide an
orientation that responds to the realities of the entire Church. In addition to the Bishops, attending # Synod
14 will be: married couples, experts, auditors and delegates. At the conclusion of this synod, the Bishops will
return home and reflect on the issues with their communities. They will return to Rome a year from now for #
Synod 15. After # Synod 15, the Bishops will present the Pope with their recommendations. Pope Francis will
then evaluate their proposals and will provide guidance to the Universal Church. Join the Synod Fathers and
Pope Francis by praying for the Synod.
Prayer for the Synod
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in you we contemplate the splendour of true love, to you we turn with trust. Holy
Family of Nazareth, grant that our families too may be places of communion and prayer, authentic schools of
the Gospel and small domestic Churches.
Holy Family of Nazareth, may families never again experience violence, rejection and division: may all who
have been hurt or scandalized find ready comfort and healing. Holy Family of Nazareth, may the approaching
Synod of Bishops make us once more mindful of the sacredness and inviolability of the family, and its beauty
in God’s plan. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, graciously hear our prayer. Amen.
