16 Gulf Daily News Tuesday, 21st October 2014 Email: [email protected] AJM Kooheji art contest for pupils AN inter-school art competition got underway yesterday at the AJM Kooheji showroom, in Ma’ameer. The Alwany Inter-school Art Competition saw students split into four age groups: grades one to three, grades four to six, grades seven to nine and grades 10 to 12. Grades one through to six took part yesterday, with 214 students. Zainab Fadhel from Musaiba bint Kaab School came top in the first group, followed by Khawthar Yasser from Al Quds School in second and Zahra Saleh from Al Daih School in third. Rana Abdulkareem from Al Manhal School came top in the second group, followed by Hussein Ali from Al Munthair bin Sawa Al Tamimi School in second and Najah Basam from Rabiya Al Adaweya School in third. A further 153 students are expected to take part today. The first prize winner in each group will receive a 32-inch TV, second place will receive a home theatre system and third place a docking station. The ‘Clear - Unclear’ exhibition features oil paintings portraying generic misconceptions shaped by an unstable personal state of mind. Two detained in connection with murder By AHMED AL OMARI TWO men have been detained in connection with the suspected murder of an Asian man yesterday. The victim suffered fatal head injuries and was taken to Al Hilal Hospital by two men who claimed they found him lying in the street in Tashan, near Khamis. However, police have detained the two based on questions surrounding their story. “An Asian man was admitted to Al Hilal Hospital in Muharraq with serious head injuries and died later in the morning,” said an Interior Ministry official. “Two people admitted him saying they found him lying on the ground in Tashan. The two were referred to the Khamis Police Station.” The official explained the two men were taken in for questioning because they took the victim to a private hospital far away from where they claimed to find the body. 31st Oct Poll rights vow JUSTICE, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry’s Political Societies Office head Abdulla Majid Al Shaikh stressed the right of citizens to establish or join political societies in accordance with the law. According to the constitution, no political society is allowed to deprive any candidate standing for elections of its membership, he said. His remarks came after some people threatened to strip candidates of their membership for filing their nominations for the elections.
