Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time
October 19, 2014
“Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar,
and to God what belongs to God.” — Matthew 22:21
EVERYTHING BELONGS TO
GOD
The first reading from the prophet Isaiah concerns
the Persian King Cyrus, called the Lord’s “anointed.”
Cyrus deserves this title because he ended the
Babylonian captivity of the Jews. However, Isaiah
reminds us that it was God who gave Cyrus his power.
He may be a great king, but “I am the LORD and there is
no other,” says God (Isaiah 45:5).
Today’s Gospel is also concerned with worldly
power. In the passage from Matthew, the Pharisees try
to trick Jesus into speaking against the emperor. His
famous answer is the perfect reply. Like the kings of
old, Caesar can be given the respect due his position,
but everything belongs to God.
In the second reading, Paul gives thanks for all who
are faithful to Jesus Christ and his gospel. He, too,
reminds us that our call and the power to be faithful
come from God.

Land of Peace Organization from Bethlehem will be
visiting St. Dunstan Parish on Oct 25 &2 6, selling olive
wood carvings outside the church. Their mission is to
build a charity hospital in Bethlehem area and to support
the Christians and protect them from immigrating.
Please let us help the Christian families in Bethlehem
and protect them from immigrating from the land were
JESUS was born.
Children's Choir: Children age 6 and older are invited to
join the new Children’s Choir to sing for the Family
Mass on Sunday, Nov. 2nd at 5:00 PM. Rehearsals are
in the church from 6:30 - 7:10 PM Choir director: Karen
Bettucchi. Questions: Cindy Bruni (650)697-1907!
The St. Dunstan Pastoral Council is looking to form a
Hospitality Committee. We are actively looking for people
who would like to get involved in the parish to help get this
committee off the ground. The primary objective of the
Hospitality Committee will be to coordinate fellowship
events (refreshments) for the parish.
We are hopeful to start with a
monthly Donut/Coffee Sunday after
a designated mass. If you are
interested and would like to
showcase your hospitality talents or
would like additional information,
please contact Sheree at (650)
697-7451 or [email protected].
