THE DEDICATION OF THE LATERAN BASILICA NOVEMBER 9, 2014 WEEKLY ATTENDANCE: Adults: 577 Children: 152 Total: 729 On this Sunday, which for us Catholics is like a little Easter, we also remember a building. Now, that might sound silly. What do you mean, celebrate a building? Yes, because it is the symbol of something very special. The Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome was one of the first churches built by Christians following those bloody, early persecutions. It was consecrated in the year 324. That Church continues to be the Cathedral of the Pope to this very day. The basilica is called Mother of all the Churches in Rome and of the World. It represents the fact we are following the Lord Jesus in the structure He gave us and keeps us together. Churches are places where members of Christ congregate to pray. We find Jesus there also. Really, the world would be considerably different if Christ had not wanted to remain with us. In front of the tabernacle we can draw strength for our interior struggle, facing the problems of the world and leave all our worries in His hands. Just as in our churches, we should often bring to mind that the most Holy Trinity lives in the souls of the just in a special way. By means of the grace of God, Christ lives in each one of us just as in a temple. Fr. John Steven Kostek DAYS OF PRAYER & HEALING: Do you know someone who is carrying the grief of a past abortion?
