Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
February 15, 2015
Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do,
do everything for the glory of God. — 1 Corinthians 10:31
FOR THE GLORY OF GOD
The entire history of the Jewish people is directed
toward one goal: that God might be glorified through
the chosen people. Christians, too, are called to “do
everything for the glory of God.” In today’s scriptures
Paul reminds us that the best way for us to glorify God
is to seek to benefit “the many,” as Christ did when he
shed his blood for all of humankind.
The reading from Leviticus explains one way the
Jews sought to benefit the many, by keeping lepers and
leprosy away from the chosen people. Jesus finds a
better way. He cures the leper, who immediately
reenters the community to spread the good news about
Jesus to everyone who will listen. In this way both
Jesus and the leper fulfill their calling to glorify the
God who fills us “with the joy of salvation.”

LENTEN REGULATIONS
Everyone 14 years of age and older is bound to
abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, the Fridays
of Lent and Good Friday. Everyone 18 years of age
and older but under the age of 60 is also bound to
fast Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. On these
two days , the law of fast allows only one full meal
a day, but does not prohibit taking some food
during the day, so long as this does not constitute
another full meal. Drinking liquids during the day
is permitted. When health or ability to work would
be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. In
doubt concerning fast or abstinence, a priest
assigned to pastoral ministry or confessor should
be consulted. In the spirit of penance, the faithful
should not lightly excuse themselves from this
obligation. Parishioners are encouraged to receive
the Sacrament of Reconciliation during Lent, and
attend Morning Prayer at 7:15 am, and one of the
daily Masses at 6:30 & 8:00 am. Stations of the
Cross are Fridays at 2:15 & 7 pm
Set your marriage On Fire! Greg and Julie Alexander,
nationally-known marriage experts, will offer a couples’
retreat on March 21 at Our Lady of Angels Church in
Burlingame. At the retreat, they will share their insights into
how you can have a more loving, joy-filled marriage, based
on their experiences with hundreds of couples around the US.
The Alexanders will also offer evening presentations around
the Bay Area, from Feb 25 – March 27. Register for the
retreat ($65/couple, dinner included) or find out the speaking
tour dates and locations at www.marraiageonfire.info.
