Welcome everyone to New Zealand Maori Basketball Aotearoa’s National Maori Basketball
tournament to be held in Rotorua 5 – 7 February 2015.
The first tournament under New Zealand Maori Basektball Aotearoa was held in 2014 at Rotorua
with 45 teams, including wheelchair basketball. In 2015 we are hoping to include Special
Olympics basketball too.
New Zealand Maori Basketball Aotearoa objectives from its constitution are:-

To foster the growth of Basketball as a sport of choice for Maori players, coaches,
administrators and officials
To reinforce the value of whakapapa, Te Reo Maori and Kaupapa Maori in
Basketball
Provide a Community pathway for Maori Players and officials to supplement
opportunities provided through Basketball NZ – The National body of Basketball in
New Zealand
Provide opportunity for NZ Fans to see Maori National Teams play live international
Basketball in New Zealand
Provide opportunity for NZ Maori players to gain international experience
So we hope you will join us and encourage others to take part in this wonderful event.
NOTE:
Preference will be given to Iwi/Rohe teams and if there is room individual teams
may be accepted.
