This service is a cherished tradition in the life of St. David’s, and Mozart’s final composition is one of incredible beauty and tenderness that will highlight the service. BBQ FUNDRAISER DINNER: The “Joyful Noise” Youth Choir of St. David’s and the Youth Choir of Oak Hill United Methodist are raising money for their upcoming Memorial Day weekend tour to Corpus Christi to share the wonderful gift of music with the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. All proceeds will help offset the cost of lodging, transportation, meals, and other activities. NEXT-TO-NEW CELEBRATES WITH PARTY AND PERFORMANCE On Monday, October 20, Next-to-New will celebrate its 55th birthday with a community-wide party from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the shop at 5435 Burnet Rd. Known as “Austin’s King of Country Music,” Dale Watson, will perfrom with his band at 1 p.m. Next-to-New opened in 1959 and serves as an outreach ministry of St. David’s. Last month, Next-to-New presented $100,000 in grants to the following organizations: AGE of Central Texas, Austin Children’s Services, Austin Diaper Bank, The Care Communities, A Community for Education, Green Doors, Helping the Aging, Needy and Disabled, Helping Hand Home for Children, Junior League of Austin for Food in Tummies, and People’s Community Clinic. The celebration is free and open to the public. VETERANS DAY OBSERVANCE: In recognition of Veterans Day, we will have a table set up in the 2nd-floor foyer to recognize those who serve and have served in our nation’s military. Please label your items so they can be returned to you. INSURE CENTRAL TEXAS: This program of nonprofit Foundation Communities is seeking volunteers to help people obtain affordable health insurance. Volunteers should be comfortable working with computers and learning basic information about health insurance and taxes. Volunteers are expected to attend one training session and work one-on-one with clients for 30 hours between November 15 and February 15. Go to www.insurecentraltexas.org for more information. RETREAT TO SOCIETY OF SAINT JOHN THE EVANGELIST (SSJE) MONASTERY: Registration is open for this “mostly silent” retreat that will be held in Cambridge, MA December 11-14, 2014. David Boyd will lead a historical journey to Turkey. Mishi Neubach, who led the St. David’s pilgrimage to Israel in 2013, will guide us through three primary areas of great importance: Istanbul, Cappadocia, and Asia Minor. The five-star tour includes round trip airfare, first class hotels, deluxe travel accommodations, and most meals. TRINITY CENTER: Trinity Center is experiencing a shortage of basic toiletries given to our homeless neighbors.
