VOLUME 20, NO. 2
IMPORTANT BUDGET UPDATE
Our leadership has carefully examined the needs of our parish and determined
that $2 million in pledges is needed for 2015 in order to continue the important
ministries upon which we and our community depend. This includes music and
worship, outreach, children and youth, adult formation, and much more. To date,
we have received $1.6 million in pledges for 2015, and we are in need of $400,000
in new or expanded pledges to continue the level of excellence in ministry and
mission that we have come to expect and depend upon.
While it is normal for pledges to trickle in during the month of January, we are
$70,000 down from this time last year, and our leadership is committed to setting
the budget based on the amount of pledges received by January 23.
We have fixed costs which cannot be changed. If we do not have the necessary
pledges, the ramifications for our non-fixed expenses, including staffing and staff
salary, program budgets, and outreach commitments, could result in severe staff
budget cuts, and we would cease to be the parish that you and we believe God has
called us to be.
Your pledge is critical to attracting the best possible candidates for the new Rector
and continuing our vitality as we offer the love of Christ through our ministries.
Please make a pledge or increase your current pledge today. Your parish is in need.
This a critical moment at a time when we are so needed in our community and in
one another’s lives.
What we need for a beginning is for every household to make a pledge. If 200
households give or give an additional $1,000, and 200 give or give an additional
$500, then we will maintain what we believe God has called us to do and
be.
Please ask God what you should pledge to support your parish family.
If you have questions on our budget and pledge campaign, please
go to Sumners Hall after this service. Members of the Finance
Committee have a table set up and welcome your
questions, thoughts, and ideas.

ECKHARDT MISSION SERIES: “STRANGE BEDFELLOWS: HOW ST.
PAUL AND QUEEN ELIZABETH SHAPED OUR CHRISTIAN PATH”:
Join us January 31 and February 1 as we learn about how St. Paul and Queen Elizabeth
shaped our Christian path from our speaker, the Rev. Dr. Minka Shura Sprague. Come
spend time with two of these fabulous forbearers. In the beginning, Paul translated our
ways into ways that became a new creation; his words set us free. When the time had
fully come, Elizabeth led us to the place where we could always faithfully search for the
best human effort in our time. He told us to “walk by the Spirit.” She told us to pick
up our prayer books, make communion, and go home; to quit worrying about agreeing
with one another. A full schedule and registration is available at www.stdave.org. The
Eckhardt Mission Series is offered at no cost. Dinner is a suggested $10, but please eat
even if you cannot pay. Child care is provided free with advanced reservations to Laura
Faulk at [email protected].
ADVENT WREATH FRAMES: Did you decorate an Advent wreath? Please
return your frame so it can be re-used next year! During January, you can drop-off
your frame in the marked basket in the lobby.
