1 An Introduction
The WAVTOSKE1 Audio Conversion Tool is an application used to convert WAV
audio format files to proprietary SKE1 audio format for use with Fire-Lite Alarms
by Honeywell ® ECC-50/100 Mass Notification System.
The SKE1 audio file can’t be played by any audio file player; it is only to be used
on the ECC-50/100 Mass Notification System.
This document assumes that the user is familiar with PC computers, Microsoft ®
Windows 7 Operating System, and the file zipping utility built into Microsoft
Windows 7.

2 Installing
To begin using the WAVTOSKE1 Audio Conversion Tool, you’ll first need to install
the application on the PC.
Items Required:
 Microsoft ® Windows 7 installed on a PC
 wavtoske1_AudioConversionTool.exe

Installing The Application
1. Double-click “wavtoske1_AudioConversionTool.exe”.
2. Click the Next button.

3. Verify that the default installation location is “c:\wavtoske1_AudioConversionTool”.
Note:
If a different folder name/location is used, its name/location can’t contain any
spaces.
4. Click the Next button.
5. Click the Next button.

6. Click “Create a desktop icon”, and then click the Next button.
7. Click the Install button.

8. Uncheck the “Launch wavtoske1_AudioConversionTool” box.
9. Click on the Finish button.

3 Creating A Folder For WAV Files
Note:
The filename of the WAV file(s) can’t have spaces between the characters. If there’re spaces
in the filename, the WAV file will not successfully convert to a SKE1 file.
1. Click Start, and point to Computer.

2. Navigate to: “C:\wavtoske1_AudioConversionTool”.
3. Click New folder.
This new folder is located inside the “wavtoske1_AudioConversionTool” main folder.

4. Create a name for the folder following the note below.
Note:
The New folder’s name can’t have any spaces between the characters. An
acceptable folder name for example would be: “WAVfiles”. If the naming
convention isn’t followed, then the WAV file won’t be converted. This folder
can be named anything as long as it follows the naming convention.
5. After the new folder has been created successfully, place all WAV files in to it.
Note:
This will also be the output folder for the converted ske1 file(s).

1.
Double-click “wavtoske1_AudioConversionTool” icon located
on the Desktop.

Click “File”, then click “Select file to convert”.
3.
Verify that “C:\wavtoske1_AudioConversionTool” is selected.

Inside the Folders column, scroll down until “WAVfiles” is located.

Double-click on “WAVfiles”.

Click on the desired WAV file to be converted located in the “Files” column.
7.
Click the OK button.
8.
Click the Convert button.

may appear briefly while the
conversion process is underway:
A successful conversion will display the following screen:
Note:
If an error occurred during the conversion process, please refer to the Troubleshooting section
located in this User guide.
9.
Click the Convert button to convert another WAV to SKE1; or, click the Exit
button to quit.
Note:
If another file has to be converted, then repeat the steps in this section.

5 Locating SKE1 File After Conversion
The “.ske1” formatted file will be outputted to the same folder where the selected
WAV file resides.
1. Click Start, and point to Computer.

2. Double-click Local Disk (C:).
3. Navigate to: “C:\wavtoske1_AudioConversionTool”.
Page 15
4. Locate the folder named: “WAVfiles”.
5. Double-click on “WAVfiles”.
Notes:
The converted audio file with the extension of “.ske1” can’t be played by any audio player
because it’s a proprietary audio format.
The audio file can be renamed to remove the “.wav” portion of the filename, as long as the
“.ske1” extension remains intact. Example extension change: 01-MNS-FIRE.wav.ske1
to 01-MNS-FIRE.ske1.

6 Troubleshooting
Issue 1: Received an error message box when trying to convert a WAV to a SKE1 audio file.
Solutions:
a. Make sure that the WAV file that is going to be converted has no spaces in its
filename.
b. Make sure that the folder that the WAV audio file resides in has no spaces in its
name.
c. Restart Microsoft Windows ® Operating System
d. Reboot PC
e. Uninstall/ Reinstall wavtoske1_AudioConversionTool
Issue 2:
Can’t locate my outputted “.ske1” audio file.
Solutions:
a. There was an error when converting the WAV file to SKE1.
b. Use the Windows search option and look for “.ske1” files on the computer.
c. Installed wavtoske1_AudioConversionTool on C: that has spaces in the target
folder’s name.
