Chinhoyi University of Technology Football Club continues to sing the blues in the ZIFA Division 2 A. Log leaders humiliated the Dr.Murungweni-coached team by two goals to nil in a league game played at CUT Sports grounds over the weekend. There is a need for “the Football Technocrats” to live up to their nickname and restore some pride for the men’s soccer team without which, the team may find itself plying its trade in the unfashionable Division 3 next season. FROM BOOST/ENACTUS …...Drug Abuse! AMBULANCE Chinhoyi University of Technology Student Health Services, in an effort to improve and expedite student transfer to the main health facilities when need arises in the Chinhoyi town and within Zimbabwe acquired a brand new ambulance – a latest model of a single cab BT-50. The ambulance is a four wheel drive and will be handed over to the Department of Student Affairs‘ Student Health Services for immediate use. According to the Transport Manager Mr.Z.Mutangi, the ambulance purchase was long overdue and it will solely be used by the University Health Services. He also informed CUT Weekly that the University had bought another 65 seater bus to add onto its fleet to make them a total of six. The acquisition of another bus will help ease transport challenges the University was experiencing during times when some of its buses are under services or have gone for field trips with students. CUT Weekly applauds the efforts of the University and it is also anticipated that the Institu- tion will purchase high utility vehicles like seven tone UD trucks and Quantum kombis. 4 It‘s a pity that over a million of people today are becoming victims of drug and alcohol abuse each and every day. Surprisingly people ignore it as it is not there at all, yet the use and misuse of alcohol and other drugs is one of the more controversial issues in our society and often a source of conflict between the sections of our society. There are quite a number of consequences of use and misuse of alcohol and other drugs such as in middle-aged drinking it impairs memory i.e drinking doubles the risk of memory loss in later life, high criminal case risks due to the euphoria (false excitement), death only to mention a few. As for smokers they develop heart diseases, stroke and cancer more than nonsmokers. But however smoking affect non-smokers through passive smoking as the second-hand smoke is more lethal. Second-hand smoke triggers nicotine cravings and directly alters brain function, similar to actually smoking a cigarette and children are the most vulnerable victims of second-hand smoke. Children exposed to this suffer respiratory diseases, asthma attacks and infections at an increased rate so smoker be RESPONSIBLE AND CONSIDERATE!!!!!!!! FREE for the weekends simply means making the right choices on everything you do and who your friends are but young people mistake it for taking and abusing drugs. One fact for sure once an addict you don‘t have hope and have NO control over your own life. Alcohol and other drugs are powerful substances with a potential to harm users or to attempt them into over-indulgence it is important to take care and responsibility of yourself when considering using them and to avoid taking any risks which you might regret later. Let’s stand up together in building a safer, healthier community by preventing and treating alcoholism and drug abuse!!!!!! Stories by : Simba Pumhayi Photography by: S. Pumhayi & E.
