The Anglican Parish of Cobden-Runanga The Herald To know Jesus Christ and to make Him known. Sunday 19th Oct. 2014 This Sunday: Fruits of the Spirit - Self Control Readings: Titus 2:1-15, Matt 7:15-23 Kristie’s baptism was a special occasion on Sunday afternoon and marked a significant step in faith for her. Please keep her in your prayers because often things seem to become a little more spiritually difficult after we have made such a declaration of faith. LADIES FELLOWSHIP GATHERING Thurs 6th Nov. at 5:30pm for a 6pm tea at Holy Trinity Church hall. Please bring a plate to share and a friend and a small donation to cover expenses. Ring Margaret on 768 5993 to RSVP. REFIT UPDATE Vestry had a good meeting on Thursday night and after having a good look over the design committee’s progress so far agreed to proceed with the total refit. We will be presenting to the parish the plans as they become available for comment. We are very keen for people to offer suggestions for improvements. Already we have made numerous changes as we and others keep looking over the current proposals. For example we will now make sure some of the end chairs have arm rests on them to enable those who need that extra support in getting in and out of pews. A view of a church with the new style of chairs we are looking at. 150 YEARS IN GREYMOUTH On Sun 19th Oct at 2pm there will be a special service celebrating 150 years of the Churches presence in the Grey District. What's On This Week! Theme for 26th October: Fruits of the Spirit - Kindness Readings: Col 3:5-14, Matt 25:31-46 Tim Writes TEAR FUND GIFT FOR LIFE Every Christmas we support Tear Fund’s Gift for Life appeal and decorate the Christmas tree with the Gift for Life cards in the lead up to Christmas Eve. Can I encourage folk to grab a brochure from the back of church to order a gift for life and then to bring the card to church and to place it on the Christmas tree. Mon 20th NANCY DALZELL FUNERAL It is with real sadness that I let you know that Nancy Dalzell passed away on Wed. She struggled with poor health for a number of years and fought hard against the odds but in the end she just wanted to be let go and she slipped away quietly. Her funeral will be at the Cobden church on Monday at 2pm followed by an interment at the Gladstone cemetery. Please keep Wayne and the children and grandchildren and wider family in your prayers as they farewell a much loved woman and come to terms with her passing. Be encouraged though, Nancy was a woman of faith and we will be seeing her again.
