In partnership with Just Fare Market This year we are doing something different and exciting in November. Instead of our annual December Fair Trade/Alternative Gift Event in Holy Family Hall we are offering a community shopping night at Just Fare Market. You will still be supporting artisans and farmers in the developing world and be able to shop for Christmas gifts for family and friends. Your gifts make a difference by providing a fair wage that enables farmers and artisans pay for food, education, healthcare and housing for their families. Just Fare will donate back 15% of the evening’s sales if $500 or more is generated. This money will be used to assist our sister parish visitors from Santa Rosa. In May of 2015, five members of our sister parish in Nicaragua will be visiting Fond du Lac. This wonderful opportunity for mutuality in the relationship is only possible if we support these missionaries; paying the expenses of visas and air travel. The shopping night at Just Fare Market is Thursday, November 13 from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm. All Holy Family parishioners and their friends are invited to come to Just Fare Market at N7645 N. Pebbles Lane to shop for your Christmas items. There is a fantastic selection of baskets, scarves, jewelry, handbags, toys, coffee, chocolate, jams, wall hangings and other items. The true spirit of Christmas is realized when we become aware of how our spending impacts others. Thank you for your support. If you have any questions, please call Carol at 920-922-8177. Respect Life Month Continues Continue to spend time this month in prayer and reflection to specifically pray that all people treat each person as a “Masterpiece of God’s Creation.” “God’s infinite love for each one of us helps us to grasp our identity and our worth. The recognition of this dignity leads us to respect and protect each person’s life…” 2014 Respect Life Program pamphlet, Advance Medical Directives: Planning for Your Future, USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities Dignity of Life Listening Session Gather for a suggestion, discussion and dialogue session on Wednesday, October 29, from 6:30 - 8:00 pm in the Holy Family Parish Hall To achieve the goal of developing a Dignity of Life ministry, the plan needs to include ongoing education, prayer, action and service and policy and advocacy efforts to mobilize our Catholic community on issues of life, justice and peace. The first and most fundamental principle of human rights is the call to actively work for a world of greater respect for human life. Come join us on October 29 in a formation and discussion session: Join others in a brief prayer for God’s help in all that we do in defense of human life. Help us plan a Mass of Hope and Healing in January, 2015 for those who have suffered a pregnancy loss due to miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, still-birth or newborn death. Hear introduction to Rosebud program: This Elizabeth Ministries’ program is a beautifully unique way to show respect for the dignity and worth of all life. This program helps a church identify, pray for and support those who are pregnant, celebrating birth or adoption, grieving miscarriage, stillbirth, abortion, infant or child death or wanting to become pregnant or adopt. Hear about Advocacy opportunities: Public advocacy from the Catholic community is a civic responsibility that serves the common good. Here is an opportunity that will assist you in your own commitment to advance justice in defense of the dignity of every human life. Bring your ideas for ways that you hope Holy Family can respect the dignity of all human life! Holy Family Catholic Community 7 PASTORAL CARE Memorial Mass - Sunday, November 2 10:15 am Mass at Holy Family Church A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Sunday November 2 at 10:15 am at Holy Family Church to honor and remember Holy Family members who have passed away between October 1, 2013 and September 30, 2014. Women age 40 and older should have a mammogram every year and should continue to do so for as long as they are in good health. Women in their 20s and 30s should have a clinical breast exam (CBE) as part of a periodic (regular) health exam by a health professional preferably every 3 years. Starting at age 40, women should have a CBE by a health professional every year. Breast self-exam (BSE) is an option for women starting in their 20s. Women should be told about the benefits and limitations of BSE. Women should report any breast changes to their health professional right away. Women who are at high risk for breast cancer based on certain factors should get an MRI and a mammogram every year. Pancake Breakfast, Sunday October 26! Weekly Justice Challenge October 19, 29th Week in Ordinary Time This Sunday’s Gospel has Jesus reminding us to give to God what is God’s. As Catholics, we are called to practice stewardship - to use our time, our resources and our gifts and talents to build God’s kingdom here on earth. Your challenge this week is to examine your efforts to tithe financially. How much of your money goes toward those most in need? In addition to your support of the local parish and the universal Church, to which charities do you contribute? If you don’t have a favorite charity, consider making a Catholic organization your charity of choice. Catholic Relief Services, Catholic Charities, St. Vincent de Paul and the Catholic Campaign for Human Development are a few of the many great Catholic organizations which exist to serve the most vulnerable in our world. Make them part of your practice of stewardship and give to God what is God’s. Copyright © Center for Ministry Development, 2014. FashioningFaith.org. All rights reserved. Holy Family Challenge: Many times in scripture we are reminded to be generous with our time, talent and treasure. Holy Family ministries: We welcome the opportunity to talk with you about the many ways you can serve with your time and talents. Simply call the parish office at 921-0580. St. Vincent de Paul Society: The envelope in your parishioner packet supports the work of Holy Family Conference. Your generosity helps serve those who are in need. You can make your check payable to St. Vincent de Paul. You are also invited to volunteer. To serve as a phone volunteer or home visitor, contact Jean White at 926-0018 or to volunteer at the thrift store, contact the store at 322-9505. Catholic organizations mentioned above: If you would like more information about these organization, please contact Jack in the parish office at 921-0580. Poverty Simulation Wednesday, November 5, Holy Family Parish Hall: This event, from 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm, provides the opportunity for participants to assume the roles of different families living in poverty. What is the simulation? This event involves participants who assume the roles of different families living in poverty. The simulation will be conducted in Holy Family Hall with the “families” grouped in the center. Around the perimeter will be tables representing community resources and services. The task of the families is to provide for basic necessities and shelter for one “month,” consisting of four fifteen-minute weeks. What is its purpose? This poverty simulation experience is designed to help participants understand what it might be like to be a part of a typical low-income family trying to survive from month-to-month. It is a simulation, not a game. The object is to sensitize participants to the realities of life faced by low-income people. Who should participate? This poverty simulation experience can be an “eye-opener” to anyone who wishes to understand more about the realities of poverty. Please join us in this free “Poverty Simulation” event. Registration is required - Cut and return to Holy Family or register online at hffdl.org/events.
