I wish every Year 12 student the best in the HSC examinations; that they encounter fair examinations and students must remember that hard work pays dividends. It is important that all students study to the best of their ability and complete all exams to the best of their ability. Remember that teaching staff are available at the school at all times throughout the examination period to help with any problems, queries and revision. Staff, students and parents want students to achieve as best they can. Relieving Principal: Mr Greg Court Vaccinations Next Monday 20 October 2014 vaccinations will be at school for all Year 7 students and Year 9 boys. This will be the HPV vaccination. I would just like to remind students and parents, that students will need to bring in their permission form for the vaccinations on Monday. Congratulations to Ruby Sherrin Ruby has won the Northern Rivers Youth Volunteer of the Year and also the Northern Rivers Student Volunteer of the Year. Last week Ruby was presented with both these prestigious awards in Lismore and was proudly supported by Year Adviser Mrs Lancaster. This is a tremendous effort and requires an enormous amount of hard work and selfless dedication. Once again this a fine example of the positive attitude of students at South Grafton High School. Year 11 Parent Teacher Night Year 11 students have just completed their Preliminary Course for 2014. They will now progress into the HSC course and I wish them all the best with their endeavours towards achieving the Higher School Certificate. There will be a parent teacher night for Year 11 students to be held on Tuesday evening 28 October. As is the normal procedure booking for this will be online. Preparing for exams It’s important to help your child stay healthy, well rested and sane as they concentrate on studying for end of year exams. This short video features teachers and parents talking about HSC preparation, but the tips are good for all high school students preparing for exams. http://bit.ly/oTovND South Grafton High School, Tyson Street, South Grafton, NSW, 2460. This is the last term for the 40 students in the Djehuti Smart Withdrawal program. Students are putting in their best efforts to push their speed and accuracy. Many of our students are progressing strongly through the Doubles, Halves, Decimals and Percentages packs improving their automaticity even further. The improved confidence in student achievement is always wonderful to see. Our end of term draw is picked from the Djehuti Smart Achievement cards that are given out during the term for personal best efforts. Our Term 3 winners are Sam Deibert and Brittany Beresford. Djehuti Smart Team Coordinator (Tania O’Connor) Creative Writing Camp At the end of Term 3 a group of 11 Year 9-10 students travelled to Valla Beach to participate in a Creative Writing Camp. Here they learned some valuable skills in writing narrativ es and poetry. They were inspired by their surroundings and used nature as a way of stimulating their ideas into exciting written work. Students also had the pleasure of watching a performance poet who was highly entertaining but also very helpful in teaching them about poetry. As part of the camp all students who attended will write a creative piece that will be put in a collection of work and given to everyone who attended the camp. Overa ll, the camp was a great exper ience for all who atten ded. The skills the students learnt will aid their writing abilities for the future. The audience responded enthusiastically and some were dancing around to the exciting rhythms. Our Dunbe’ drummers accompanied Wala in their final act and were joined by dancers from South Grafton High, Maclean High, Iluka Public and Wooli Public. The experience and excitement gained by all involved shows that West African rhythm is a universal tool for bringing people together, no matter what age or where they are from. A big thank you to the guys from Wala who are world class entertainers performing right on our doorstep. Don’t forget – WIN $100 City Beach Vouchers – two per school – and more!
