Ngā mihi nui kia koutou / Greetings to you all
Great news to share with you today. At long last we have
our water fountains!! Two of them!! This has been a long
time coming and this year we finally got a grant from “For
Everyone” who is supported by Ritchie McCall,
Ali Williams and
Dan Carter.
They look fantastic and work really well too. They
come with a fountain to drink from
and a water bottle filler on the
side.
We also have a special visitor coming to our school on the
6th Nov as part of the ‘Tremendous Tree Makeover’. Ruud
Kleinpaste, our very own NZ bug man will be at the school
to talk to the children the staff and any parents/community
members who would like to join in as well. He will be
talking to the classes from 1.30 till 3.00pm.
Have a great week .

Gosh what a huge change around we have had this term!
We are all enjoying our temporary classroom but at the
same time we can’t wait to get back to our, soon to be
completed renovated learning areas.
We have been monitoring the changes our school has
been going through and writing about these. The children
have also had fun with Bob the Builder activities including
making their very own tool belts! The Three Little Pigs will
also feature in our Literacy and Maths programmes.
Next week we will be making some items for the school
fair. The children have already completed a piece of art to
sell at the fair. I hope to see you all there as it will be loads
of fun and well worth the effort of attending.
I hope you have a relaxing long weekend.
Kind regards, Louise
TARANAKI
Howdy ya’ll!
Welcome back to the final term of the year, it seems to be
passing rapidly already as we busily prepare for the Fair.
Thank you so much to all the superheroes who helped us
with our rapid move to a new classroom at the end of the
holidays, I really appreciated the help and made the 2
days before school started back a lot less stressful – thank
you!!!
We have been creating and writing about Soap Monsters.
We will be making some pretty ‘styley’ shopping bags and
some Jackson Pollock inspired art for sale on the big day
of the fair.
We have begun the term looking at patterns in Algebra,
using shapes and now numbers, and working hard to identify the rule and complete missing gaps. Some patterns
are repeating, others increasing or decreasing – it’s best to
have your detective hat on to work these out!
Thanks to everyone for being so well organised so early in
the term with the routines like fruit, crackers, sunhats, sunscreen, book-bags and so on. It really has helped us settle quickly into a new room and the new term.
Until next time, See yah!, Lisa
AORAKI
Hello from Aoraki
Already into term 4 and I am looking forward to another
exciting term in Aoraki classroom. I hope you all had a
relaxing and enjoyable holiday and are ready for the last
term of the year! The children have been busy getting
their art and craft ready for our school fair which is next
Sunday. We are completing a piece of artwork to be
auctioned as well as making lanterns and have planted
herbs to sell.
We have been spending most afternoons for the past two
weeks getting ready for the senior athletics, which is on
today at East Otago High School. I would like to thank
Noni and Ada who have been helping out with training.
The children in the senior school will be going to swimming
every Thursday at Hawksbury Pool. We will be travelling
to the pool each Thursday by bus, starting at approximately 10.30am. Please remind your child/children to bring
their towel and togs as well as goggles each week if they
have them.
I sent a letter home last Monday covering the information
for our class and events that are happening in Aoraki class
during the term. The information is also on our kidblog
page which at http://kidblog.org/Aoraki/.
Have a great week.
Mrs Hurst
AORANGI
Welcome back.
It's going to be a very busy 4th term, and the children have
already been extremely industrious, making items for the
school fair - see you there on Sunday 2nd November.
We continue our land topic, focusing on 'looking after the
planet' and looking at climate change. In maths we are
doing a mix of number work and geometry. In writing, as
well as revisiting the recounts, the children are making
their own non-fiction text on the iPads using book maker.
If you didn't get to see Sandy or myself last term for a
teacher/parent interview. Please do come and arrange a
quick chat.
Swimming togs are required on a Thursday, please have
goggles. Brimmed sun hats are required everyday.
See you at the Fair,
regards, Kate
