Local Fall Golf Season Still Going Strong County Moving Forward With New Pro
Management Team for Parks Courses
PRIME (GOLF) TIME: Yes, temperatures have cooled off in recent days, but
the local Fall golf season is still going strong, as can be seen in this photo
of golfers enjoying a round at Churchville Park Golf Course. In fact, it’s been
such a good Fall throughout the Rochester area, that many local courses have
reported full tee sheets in recent weekends — helping to make up for the
cool, wet Spring we had. AND — for those with USGA GHIN handicaps
through the Rochester District Golf Association, the official posting season
continues through next Friday, Oct. 31, so keep posting those scores.
With such an amazing array of fall colors seen throughout the region in recent weeks, Rochester Golf Week will be publishing some of the best fall golf
course photos taken in the area this season in next week’s issue — so if you
have a Fall golf photo to share, email it to our editor, Dave Eaton, this week
at: dave@ golf week rochester.com. The best photos will be published next
week! (Photo: Rochester Golf Week/Dave Eaton)
Junior Club Champions
With the arrival of autumn, many Rochester
area golf courses have
concluded their club championships for the year —
often, the biggest event
on the club calendar for
members and a source of
pride for those amateurs
who have worked so hard
on their game throughout
Club
the summer.
This week, we present
our annual list of Rochester Area Junior Clubs
Champions for 2014. Although not every club in
the Rochester area holds a
junior club championship,
many of those that do
offer competitions for several different categories,
including boys, girls (usually between the ages of
15 to 17), sub-juniors
(ages 11 to 14) and pee
wees (10 and under) —
giving many juniors the
opportunity to compete
for “bragging rights” at
their club, as well as motivate them for the future. x

LOCAL PROS RETURNING TO MANAGE Parks Courses: This week, Monroe
County officials announced that the management firm of PGA Professionals Philip
Kless, left, and Andy Meyers, right, are their choice for taking over management
of the three County Parks Department-run golf courses as of Jan. 1 — pending approval of the County Legislature next month. Currently managing Lyndon Golf Course in Syracuse, both Kless and Myers are originally from Rochester and look to relocate here to manage the Parks Courses. (Photo:

For those Rochesterarea golfers who regularly
play the three Monroe
County Parks Departmentowned golf courses — and
have been looking for a
new direction in management of them — it has
been a long, and at times
contentious, path to resolution. But now, at long
last, there is light at the
end of the tunnel.
What began as a grassroots effort to improve conditions at the County Parks
Courses located at Churchville, Durand Eastman and
Genesee Valley Parks; led
to an official audit by the
New York State Comp troller; and ultimately resulted in the County terminating the management
contract it had with PGA
Master Professional Jack
Tindale for 17 years — has
finally reached a conclusion, one with which most
parties seem to be happy.
Late last week, the Monroe County Parks Department, its director, Larry
Staub, and Monroe County Executive Maggie
Brooks announced that a
new management team for
the County Parks Courses
has been selected from
among a list of applicants
as a result of a nearly yearlong search for a replacement for Tindale that
began in January, when

trigger the State Comptroller’s Office to audit the
management of the courses last year was this shot

the County announced that
their contract with him
would be terminated as of
Dec. 31.
Pending approval by the
Monroe County Legislature
at their November meeting, the Syracuse-based
firm of Kless Myers Golf
Management will take over
the day to day golf operations of the three Parks
Courses as of Jan. 1,
2015.
