Literacy writing worksheets Overview The reproducible Literacy writing worksheets offer practice recognizing shapes as well as recognizing and forming letters and numbers. Developing these skills is foundational for preliterate, nonliterate, and semiliterate students who are not yet ready to do tasks that require them to read and write. The Writing readiness worksheets (Worksheets 1–2) prepare students for forming letters and numbers by practicing lines and curves. The Letter formation worksheets (Worksheets 3–14) practice forming groups of capital and lowercase letters according to stroke type: for example, horizontal and vertical strokes as in E and L, diagonal strokes as in K and Z, and circular strokes as in o and e. There is one Letter practice worksheet for each letter. The Number formation worksheets (Worksheets 41– 43) provide practice forming groups of numbers according to stroke type: for example, vertical, horizontal, and diagonal strokes as in 4 and 7 and circular strokes as in 0 and 3. The Number practice worksheets (Worksheets 44–45) present the numbers in order from 1 to 20. Blank practice worksheets (Worksheets 46–47) are provided in two sizes to give students additional practice writing letters, numbers, and words. Worksheet 46 has a large writing grid suitable for students who are beginners at forming letters or numbers. It matches the print size of the left-hand pages of Units 1–5 in the Ventures Literacy Workbook. Worksheet 47 has a smaller writing grid suitable for students who are more comfortable forming letters and numbers. It matches the print size on the right-hand pages of Units 1–5 and the left-hand pages of Units 6–10 in the Ventures Literacy Workbook. Make extra copies of the Letter formation and Letter practice worksheets to have on hand in the classroom so Ss can practice as much as they like. Provide Ss with ample copies of the Blank practice worksheets for further practice or classroom activities. Many Ss are more comfortable writing their answers within the lines of the writing grids.
