“The Church is pro-life, of course, but being a biology major in college might
have let me gain an even greater appreciation for the sanctity of life. …it’s
obvious that life begins at conception…when you go through the science
classes…this basic fact is confirmed again and again. DNA for a unique human
being, made in the image and likeness of God, is there from the very beginning.”

WHAT IS R.C.I.A.?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) is the way in which
adults become full, active, participating members of the Catholic Church.
The R.C.I.A. is not just a “convert class” with a new name. It looks
different too. Special rites are celebrated during the Sunday liturgies at
various times throughout the year. The R.C.I.A. involves the whole
parish – in prayer as the rites are celebrated, in hospitality, as new
members are welcomed, and in specific ministries like sponsor, team
member, etc.
The most important thing to keep in mind about the R.C.I.A. is
this: it is not merely a new way to prepare adults for baptism; baptism is
only one step. The goal of the process is full communion, which means
“full, conscious, and active participation” in the Eucharist and in the
whole life of the Catholic faith community.
The R.C.I.A. is for: (1) any non-baptized adult seeking to
become a Catholic; (2) any baptized non-Catholic wishing to
become a Catholic; (3) any baptized Catholic who needs to receive
the Sacraments of Holy Communion & Confirmation. As a disciple of
Jesus Christ, please see the R.C.I.A. process as a grace-filled
opportunity for YOU to reach out to a non-catholic spouse, friend, coworker or neighbor and personally invite him/her to “Come & See” what
the Lord has planned for them. For more information call the Office at
610-272-4500 and ask for Sister Ann McAlpin. RCIA will begin Thursday,
September 26th at 7PM.

It's that time of the year when we look ahead to our
Annual Christmas Bazaar
Friday November 7th- 5:00P.M. to 8:30P.M.
Saturday, November 8th- 10:00A.M. to 8:00P.M.
Attic Treasures: As you start your fall clean up and are cleaning out
your closets and rooms, please remember our attic treasures booth at
the bazaar. We will take anything in good condition. We will not take
books, clothes or shoes for this booth. Thanks for sharing your
treasures!
Children and Teen Booth: We need all kinds of items that would
interest children of all ages. Sports gear, stuffed animals, posters,
DVD's, toys, etc. If you could help us with a donation of an item, I
know the children would love to win a great prize.
Tombola: This popular booth is looking for NEW items to chance off.
Anything from a set of dishes, to a toaster or a special doll would be
great! All ages play this game and the booth has become one of the
most popular at the bazaar.
Craft Booth/Country Store: If you are talented and make any kind of
craft, please think about making an item or two for your St. Pat's
Christmas bazaar. We are also looking for all those talented people
who make jellies, jams, or relishes. We would love to share your
favorite flavors with others.
"The Jewelry Booth" This booth has been such a big success that we
are now low on any kind of jewelry. As you begin your fall cleaning and
find jewelry to donate, we could use it for this booth. We are also
looking for jewelry boxes, lotions, new combs and brushes, hair
bands and barrettes, powders, etc.
“Spirit Wheel” Is looking for donations of wine, beer and other spirits
for the upcoming bazaar. Please drop your donation off in the Parish
Offices or call 610-272-1408 to schedule a pick up. Thank you!
Thank you, in advance, for all the donations we receive from our
parishioners. This is what makes the bazaar such a huge success
every year! The other is having our parishioners and their family and
friends attend the bazaar too! We need every ones help to make this
year's bazaar a success. Come out and have a lot of fun and good
food! Thank you.

Reasons to Go to Confession
26
27
28
“If there is a heavenly idea in the Catholic Church, surely, next after the
Blessed Sacrament, Confession is such.” -Blessed John Henry
Newman
29
Confession is one of my favorite sacraments, and I try to go as often as I
can. But this wasn’t always the case. I am a convert, and I still remember the
awkwardness of my first confession. I dreaded it for weeks, about as much
as you would if you had to tell your parents you totaled their brand new car.
30
St. John Bosco hearing confessions
The worst part was, the good priest who confirmed me insisted that I
confess face to face. There would be no semi-anonymous screens or
soundproof rooms. I wasn’t going to get the easy way out.
Frankly, it was humiliating, and I remember staring at the floor most of the time.
But after the humiliation came the best part—hearing the words of absolution.
It was incredibly powerful, and it made God’s mercy concrete and real in a new
way.
As a protestant, I never really knew if I was forgiven. Had I been really sorry
enough? Had I prayed long enough and hard enough? Of course, I was told just
to believe and have faith that I was, but being the scrupulous sort (I still struggle
with this), I would find myself questioning my motives and my own sincerity.
More often than not, I would repeat the same prayers for forgiveness over and
over, just for good measure.
Then there was the guilt of keeping my sins secret from the world. I could act
holy and righteous, but no one really knew who I was below the surface. I felt
like a hypocrite, laden with secret sins.
The sacrament of penance changes all that. I can’t keep my sins secret, at least
not for very long. And I don’t have to doubt if I am forgiven, I can concretely
hear that I am, as many times as I need to.
3 REASONS TO GO TO CONFESSION
Many men are embarrassed or afraid to go to confession. They avoid it as long
as possible, and make excuses for not going. If that’s you, here are three
reasons you should go to confession as soon as possible.
1. A new beginning – No matter what you’ve done (think of the worst thing you
could possibly do), you can find mercy and healing in the sacrament of
penance. When you walk out of the confessional, you are as sin free as you will
ever be. Why would you not want that gift?
Even if you haven’t committed any serious sins, going to confession is
like taking a bath. While they don’t kill us spiritually, venial sins wound our soul
and make it dirty, so to speak. Don’t let your soul become smelly and dusty with
venial sins. Go to confession.
2. Concrete forgiveness - Our Lord does not keep us guessing about whether
or not we are forgiven. When the priest utters the words of absolution, your soul
is instantly and completely healed. Sacramentally, Jesus is present in the
confessional in the person of the priest. If he were here on earth, wouldn’t you
ask him for forgiveness? If you want to experience the Divine Mercy in a real
way, confession is the way to do it.
3. You receive graces - There is a mistaken notion that confession is just
getting rid of our sins. But that’s not true. We not only have our sins taken away
and cast into the bottom of the sea, we also receive graces from Christ that we
desperately need to live a holy life. The more you go to confession, the
more graces you receive.
WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
Men, please go to confession. While you may not always feel like it, this
sacrament is a great gift. Don’t let fear, guilt, or embarrassment dissuade you.
Jesus is waiting in the confessional for you, and his heart longs to grant you his
mercy in abundance. What are you waiting for? Go to confession!
