The Principal's Flyer October 24, 2014 Vol. 1 No. 10 Adam N. Goldberg Twitter: @adamgoldberg1 Email: [email protected] Thank you! What a strange experience it’s been to spend the week at home recovering while reading, hearing and watching the world unfold through all the mediums. I want to thank again my administrative team for their extra efforts this week, and all of you for the notes, cards, Edible Arrangements, and emails to keep in touch. I’ve been your Principal for a short time, but I am very grateful for the way in which many have embraced me and supported me this week, and so far this year. This is a GREAT school! I’m excited to return Monday and see everyone again – I’m a little slower though, but stronger and invigorated to be back in the school environment. One of the events that I missed was the National Honor Society induction ceremony. Many thanks to Susan Corcoran for her leadership in a very large chapter of students. Last night, 17 Seniors and 109 Juniors were inducted into a chapter already containing 74 Seniors giving us a FHS Chapter of 200 students. Among the words I would have spoken would have been to recognize these NHS inductees as students who have demonstrated a high commitment to excellence in academics, service, character and leadership. We are all very proud of this accomplishment! At this time of year, however, I also recognize and remind everyone that the first academic quarter ends next Friday. It all comes together…Friday, October 31st, Halloween, end of Q1…it can be a scary day for more than one reason! The close of the first quarter is significant. As a student myself who struggled during high school, the issuance of a report card often brought difficult conversations. Let me say now…there is one week left…there are things students can do that CAN make a difference! On one hand, we’re recognizing academic excellence on a large scale. On the other hand, we’re aware that there are students trying really hard right now, who want to do well, and who ARE making progress. To those students, I and other around you, say…KEEP GOING…DON’T GIVE UP…ASK FOR HELP! And then, at the end of next week, what you have…is a starting point. First quarter grades set the stage for the rest of the year…so it’s just the beginning. THE PRINCIPAL'S FLYER OCTOBER 24, 2014 1 A twist to the formatting of The Flyer, I will put right at this introduction, the deadlines, important upcoming dates, and dates referenced in the announcements.
