Brothers and sisters in Christ, the Bible speaks with urgency
when it says that God wants all people to be saved and come
to a knowledge of the truth. Our marching orders as
individuals and as a church are to go and make disciples of all
nations.
Yet, as we look at our lives and priorities, as we consider how
we spend our time and where we invest our resources, do we
really share Jesus’ passion to save the lost?
Our sin separates us from God, but God wants to remove this
barrier so that we are free to serve in love and joy. He calls us
to confess our sins so that he can assure us of his love and
forgiveness in Christ. I invite you to join me as we confess.
Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth.
In countless ways I have sinned against you and do not
deserve to be called your child. But trusting in Jesus, my
Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to your unfailing
love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt.
God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has
given his only Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
Therefore, as a called servant of Christ and by his authority, I
forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit.

we share as members of your holy Church, for your gracious
Word and sacraments, for opportunities to worship and to

Jesus Christ, Lord of the Church, you give grace to your people

Worship Series:
“Parables that Go Against the Flow”
Jesus often taught in parables-earthly stories
with heavenly meanings. What w don’t realize
is that with many of these parables Jesus was
attempting to get at and change the common
religious misconceptions of the day. What
many people in the church believed or how they
lived was not in accord with God’s Word and will. So Jesus told a story
that was meant to expose their sin and call them to repentance.
Its interesting to see how little things really change. The church today
struggles with the same kinds of issues the church wrestled with in
Jesus’ day. With this series we’ll take a look at some parables that
Jesus shared and apply them to the church and our personal lives
today.
October 26 “The Parable of the Lost Sheep”
Jesus states that he would gladly leave the ninety-nine behind to
rescue that one lost sheep. Do we in the church share Jesus’ passion
for the lost? Are we willing to sacrifice some of our own comfort and
care for the sake of the lost? What does this parable mean for our
personal and our church’s priorities?

Parent Room
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me.” We love children and
encourage their worship. Please don’t feel embarrassed if your child
is restless during the service. You are among caring people who
understand. If you feel that your children are distracting others from
worship, you may take them to the entryway or a parent’s room is
available. There is a closed-circuit TV in the room to watch & listen to
the service. An usher can assist you in locating this room, also called
the “Bible Class Room”.
Wheelchair Area
For your convenience, there are two areas set aside to accommodate
members with wheelchairs, walkers, or other special space needs.

We would like to welcome anyone interested in discussing the movie
"God's Not Dead". Whether you attended the movie here at church or
if you watched it on your own, please come & join the conversation!

Fall Book Fair
It's once again time for our fall book fair. It will be set up in the school
music room. We have scheduled numerous times for you to see what
we have available:
Saturday, Oct. 25 after the 5:15 worship service;
Sunday, Oct. 26 between services;
Monday, Oct. 27 from 9:00AM - 7:00 p.m. (Parent/Teacher
Conferences in PM), and Tuesday, Oct. 28 from 7:30AM-Noon
We invite all congregation members to come and browse. We are
able to keep our school library up-to-date because of the book fairs.
Last year we were able to add $1200+ worth of books to our
collection, just from book fair sales. Come check us out!

NEW CONSTITUTION/VOTER REGISTRY
Just a heads up that since we have a revised constitution and bylaws
that we have started a new constitution registry. The previous
registry was started approximately 40 years ago and contains the
names of many members who are no longer with us. Signing of the
registry signifies that the individual signing is in agreement with and
supportive of the constitution and bylaws that were approved and
adopted on June 16, 2014.
The constitution registry must be signed by all eligible (18 years of age
male members) who intend to vote at any congregational meeting.
The opportunity to sign is given at the beginning of all congregational
meetings. However, since this is a new registry it will also be available
in the Emanuel office for anyone that would like to stop in and make
sure that your name is in the registry.
Hat & Mitten Drive
Brrrrrr, it's getting to be that time of year again. With the warmth
from your hearts, please consider donating any new or gently used
mittens or hats for people in need. A Christmas tree will be in the
narthex where you can clip your donation starting the weekend of
November 2. The items will then be distributed. Please have your
donations on the tree by December 1. Thanks in advance for your
support.
Military Bible Sticks
Once again we have an opportunity to truly make a difference.
Members of our Armed Forces, especially those who are deployed
overseas in places like Afghanistan, are requesting the Bible on
Military Stick. The requests are much greater than the financial ability
to provide. Faith Comes By Hearing is an organization committed to
providing these Military Bible Sticks to men and women of our Armed
Forces. Donation boxes will be placed at the exits on Veteran’s Day
weekend, November 8, 9, and 10. Each stick costs $25.00. Our
congregation’s response in the past has been overwhelming. I hope
we at Emanuel can again respond to this great need and help bring
the Word of God to soldiers who desperately desire it.

Emanuel Blood Drive
Emanuel's last blood drive for 2014 will be held on Tuesday,
November 18 from 1:00-6:00 p.m. Sign up at Welcome Center or

drive is open to the public. Walk-ins are always welcome.

Our words are more and more. The letter Dd made it all the way to
105 words. Not quite as many as last year, but very close. We also
finished up our Ee words. 192 Ee words graced our board. They really
enjoyed Elmo and understand energetic! We are very energetic!

Thank you to all of you who made donations for the early childhood
progression party. All supplies were put to a great use for our chili
supper. Everyone appreciated a home-cooked meal on a night that
was very busy!
Joint Reformation Service
"Have No Fear Little Flock” will be the theme for our Reformation
service this year. District President Joel Zank will preach at the 4:00
pm service on November 2 at FVL's Auditorium. A choir of area WELS
Pastors will join their voices in a choir. Mt. Olive congregation has
agreed to serve refreshments following the service. Join us to
celebrate the blessings of the Lutheran Reformation. This is a WELS
United sponsored event.
Marriage Retreat
Mark your calendar for the “With this Ring” marriage retreat. It will
be held on February 27 – March 1, 2015 at the Olympia Resort & Spa
in Oconomowoc, WI. Jay & Laura Laffoon will lead the “Ultimate Date
Night Tour.” The retreat price is $100 if you register by Monday,

Thrivent Action Team - Act Today!
If you are a Thrivent member, there is a new program you can use to
help fund member-led projects, fundraisers, one time service
activities, or educational events. The new program is called Thrivent
Action Team.
Each Thrivent member, 16 years or orlder, that has a product with
Thrivent, can host two projects per year. For each project, Thrivent
Financial will provide $250 of seed money to get you started.

Job Opportunity
FVL is hiring an Office Assistant to begin December 1. Responsibilities
will include student attendance, collecting student lunch payments,
ordering office supplies, answering phones, food service accounting,
copying/printing, SCRIP inventory, and other various office tasks.
Strong customer service skills as well as accounting/bookkeeping skills
are required. Once posted, the position will remain open through Oct.
31. Interviews will occur in early November with a final candidate
chosen by November 14. Applications AND resumes should be mailed

FVLHS Update
 The FVL School Office and SCRIP Office will be open on Thursday,
Oct. 30 from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Both offices will be CLOSED on
Friday, Oct. 31.
 FVL Theatre will be performing Arsenic & Old Lace On Nov. 7, 8
and 9. This classic comedy introduces the audience to the
Brewster clan where insanity runs in the family. Show times are
Friday and Saturday at 6:30 and Sunday at 2:00 pm. Tickets are on

 FVL will hold its annual Veterans Day Breakfast & Service on

1. Call meeting to order – Mr. Yerkey called the meeting to order at
7:45 pm.
There were 24 voting members, and 14 non-voting members (per
sign-in sheets) present.
2. Opening – Pastor Heiges spoke of the importance of peace in our
lives which has been provided to us by Jesus Christ.
3. Notice that eligible members intending to vote sign the
Constitution Register if they have not already done so.
4. Approval of minutes from annual meeting of June 16, 2014.
Motion made by Mr. Chris Doran to accept the minutes as
presented, second by Mr. Carl Gloede; motion carried.
5. Unfinished business (if any) from June 16 annual meeting.
6. Ratification of membership changes – Motion made by Mr.
Howard Hidde to remove those 18 years of age and younger from
the list, second by Mr. Richard Sawall; motion carried. Motion
made by Mr. Wayne Steingraber to ratify the membership changes
as amended, second by Mr. Gloede; ballots were distributed.
There were 23 yes votes 0 no votes and 1 abstain; motion carried.
7. Financial report for period of July 1, 2014 through September 30,
2014 – Mr. Yerkey presented the financial report. Motion made
by Mr. Doran to approve the financial report as presented, second
by Mr. Roger Knapp; motion carried.
8. Audit Report for the 2013-14 fiscal year – Mr. Yerkey presented
the Audit Report. Motion made by Mr. Ed Krause to approve the
Audit Report as presented, second by Mr. Steingraber; motion

Board of Parish Property News
Gym Refinishing Project
Starting Monday, October 27, the Emanuel gym floor will be going
through the process of being resurfaced. The entire project will
take just under a week. The gym may be in limited use the week of
November 3 depending on the finishing process.
Thank You Snow Removers
It would be hard to get through the winter season
without all the help removing snow from the
parking lots and sidewalks at Emanuel. Each year we have many
people who shovel, snowblow, plow and haul snow away so that
everyone is able to get into the church and school on a daily basis.
Thank you to all of you who continually help and take on this
enourmous task. We appreciate all you do!

Many dedicated volunteers have been up and about all
summer to be sure the Emanuel grounds were well taken
care of. Thank you to each of you for all the time and
effort you have given to make sure everything looks so
amazing.

Sunday Morning Bible Study
Sundays through November 16 – 9:15 a.m.
You’ve heard the objections. These and many more!
There are many paths to God. What kind of God demands worship?
There are hypocrites in the church. Religion is a crutch for the weak.
Where is God when I’m hurting? I want to feel good about myself. All
the church cares about is money. Can a loving God send people to hell?
Christianity is so anti-woman. I can’t handle your outdated view of sex.
How do I know I’m a Christian? I’ll be rejected by family and friends.
You’ve heard the objections, but you don’t feel prepared to
answer them. What if, instead of racking our brains for just the right
passages, we would begin instead with the right story? A story that sets
the living Jesus before their eyes?
We might come away concluding, “All I really needed to know I
learned in Sunday school.” This approach, called Bible Story Evangelism,
might be just what we need, not just to set Jesus before those outside
the church but also before those who are in danger of drifting away.
Can you tell the story of Peter’s denial? of the Emmaus disciples?
of the weeds and the wheat? of Judas’ betrayal? of the woman at the
well? of the woman who anointed Jesus with the expensive perfume?
Then you’ve already got a vivid way to respond to six of the objections
above. Even if you can match them up yourself, we encourage you to join
us at 9:15 a.m. in the church proper. We’ll be looking at stories of Jesus
and asking ourselves, “Who needs to hear this?”

Classes
Emanuel’s new ministry
group, Women of HIS Word,
would like to invite all women to the following upc oming
Bible studies. Easch Bible study will be held on Sundays
from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. in the Church Basement.
“The Proverbs 31 Woman” – November 2 & 9
This Bible study will dig into the wisdom of the book of
Proverbs to teach and guide the Christian woman in Godpleasing characteristics, attitudes and priorities as she seeks
to fulfill the roles that God has given her.
“Women’s Spiritual Gifts” – December 7 & 14
This Bible study will examine the role of women in the
church and the God-pleasing, Scriptural ways in which
women can use their time, talents, treasures, and abilities to
serve in the church and further the growth of God’s
Kingdom.
“A Personal Relationship with Jesus”
January 18 & 25
This Bible study will use various examples from Scripture to
help women nurture their personal relationships with Jesus
and their daily walk with their Lord.

Bible Studies for Everyone
Exodus
The book of Exodus is the history of God's love for His
wayward people. Genesis traced the history of God's promise to send
a Savior for His rebellious mankind. Genesis ends with the choosing of
a family through which that Savior would be sent to the world.
Exodus picks up that history of God's plan to save fallen mankind. It
demonstrates the detailed care God gave to that family. He
repeatedly forgives, calls the family back into His kingdom, and
continues nurtures them after they had rebelled against Him. In the
history of the Israelites we can see our own history as God continues
to offer His Grace to us even though we often demonstrate our
disloyalty to Him.

In the Community Room
The Bible
The A&E Network presented a ten episode series
called “The Bible.” In that series, the history
presented in the Bible has been broken into ten
brief segments. There are five segments on the
Old Testament and five segments on the New
Testament. We will view these segments one at a
time and discuss them as they relate to the Bible.
We will notice the time span of history has been compressed. They
did try to be true to the Word, but at times used some poetic license
to move the history along.
