Emergency Pastor for November 10 – November 16 Pastor Schulz – 920-538-3617 | 1 Page “Focus” BELLS & WELCOME OPENING HYMN.................................. “The King Shall Come” – CW 25 The King shall come when morning dawns And light triumphant breaks, When beauty gilds the eastern hills And life to joy awakes— Not as of old a little child To bear and fight and die, But crowned with glory like the sun That lights the morning sky. Oh, brighter than the rising morn When Christ, victorious, rose And left the lonesome place of death Despite the rage of foes. Oh, brighter than that glorious morn Shall dawn upon our race The day when Christ in splendor comes And we shall see his face. The King shall come when morning dawns And light and beauty brings. Hail, Christ the Lord! Your people pray: Come quickly, King of kings! CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: C: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. And also with you. | 2 Page M: C: M: C: M: C: M: Brothers and sisters in Christ, as we approach the end of another church year, God’s Word directs our hearts to the end of all things. When that day comes, our Lord Jesus will return with great power and glory to gather his elect from the ends of the earth. He is coming as Judge of all. The divine record will be opened – revealing not only our words and deeds but also our thoughts and attitudes. Since nothing is hidden from God, let us openly and honestly confess all our sins to him. Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful, and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity. But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior, Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner. God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given his only Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, as a called servant of Christ and by his authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. For all that we need in life and for the wisdom to use all your gifts with gratitude and joy, hear our prayer, O Lord. | 3 Page M: For the steadfast assurance that nothing can separate us from your love and for the courage to stand firm against the assaults of Satan and every evil, hear our prayer, O Christ. M: For the well-being of your holy Church in all the world and for those who offer here their worship and praise, hear our prayer, O Lord. M: Merciful God, maker and preserver of life, uphold us by your power and keep us in your tender care: M: The works of the Lord are great and glorious; his name is worthy of praise. HYMN RESPONSE ........... “The Day Is Surely Drawing Near” – CW 207 vs. 5, 6 My Savior paid the debt I owe And for my sin was smitten; Within the Book of Life I know My name has now been written. I will not doubt, for I am free, And Satan cannot threaten me; | 4 Page There is no condemnation! O Jesus Christ, do not delay, But hasten our salvation; We often tremble on our way In fear and tribulation. Your saints are waiting patiently; Come soon, Redeemer; make us free From ev’ry evil. Amen. PRAYER OF THE DAY M: C: M: Let us pray. Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior and our Judge, strengthen us through your Word and sacraments, so that we may look forward to the day of your second coming with confidence and eager expectation. Keep us steadfast in true and living faith that we may stand before you on that day holy and blameless. Jesus, we pray in your name. You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. The end of things created; The judge of mankind shall appear On clouds of glory seated. The trumpet sounds; the graves restore The dead which they contained before: Prepare, my soul, to meet him! The dead in Christ shall first arise At that last trumpet’s sounding, Caught up to meet him in the skies, With joy their Lord surrounding. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and became fully human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried. | 7 Page On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, Who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, Who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. Do this in remembrance of me.” Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Presiding Minister & Message – Pastor Bill Heiges Organist – Mr. Klint Kaddatz Worship Series: “How To Survive the End of the World” The Book of Eli,” “The Darkest Hour,” Contagion,” The Day After Tomorrow.” The list of doomsday movies that Hollywood produces is incredible. Yet, they keep coming. There’s something about these end of the world stories that fascinates us, frightens us and keeps us coming back for more. The theme that inspires is survival. Against all odds, when all hope is lost humanity grabs hold of courage, defies the enemy and turns the tide. What Hollywood won’t show is the real end of the world story. The end is coming. For some it will be a day of judgment and destruction, grief and pain like nothing even seen or imagined before. The Bible calls this “eternal death.” But for others the end of the world will make the beginning of a new life where pain and trouble will cease forever. When that day comes, on which side of the fence are you going to be on? The requests are much greater than the financial ability to provide. Faith Comes By Hearing is an organization committed to providing these Military Bible Sticks to men and women of our Armed Forces. Donation boxes will be placed at the exits on Veteran’s Day weekend, November 8, 9, and 10. Each stick costs $25.00. Our congregation’s response in the past has been overwhelming. I hope we at Emanuel can help bring the Word of God to soldiers who desperately desire it. Some testimonials include: “Being in an active environment it is hard to find time to stop and study God’s word. Hearing it has helped tremendously!!” “(The Military Bible Stick) has helped strengthen my relationship with God. “ | 17 Page OWLS Serving Donuts This Sunday The Organization of Wisconsin Synod Lutheran Seniors, OWLS, will be serving donuts November 9th. The donations received will go to Prison Ministries. The expanded outreach to prisoners was started in 1996 through 550 chaplains and since then the number of prisoners participating is over 57,000 and growing daily. Prisoners are sent one of twenty Self-Study Booklets. The prisoners read and study the booklets, then write a test. Our group is sent ten tests about every six weeks. We correct the tests and write encouraging comments. As you can see from the following testimonials, the Holy Spirit is working through these booklets that the prisoners use. After writing the test on the booklet AM I WORTHY, this prisoner wrote: “This course was helpful in showing me how God sees me. I have always battled with feelings of worthlessness my whole life. Even after giving my life to Jesus it has been hard to believe that God wants anything to do with me at all. I really liked the statement, ‘God hates sin.’ He knows I am a sinner, but has found a way to love me anyway.’ That’s love! I always pray that the Lord will strengthen my faith and continue to help me turn away from sin in my life. Thank you for providing this course and all the courses you provide. They are helpful. God bless.” “Family Foundations” Bible Study Join us for the next “Family Foundations” Bible Study on Sunday, November 16 from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. The topic will be: Family Faith. We meet in the School Commons for a parent’s discussion about strategies for growing Christ-centered families. Refreshments and babysitting are provided. Emanuel Blood Drive Emanuel's last blood drive for 2014 will be held on Tuesday, November 18 from 1:00-6:00 p.m. Sign up at Welcome Center or www.save3lives.org or call Beth @982-7544. Reminder: the blood drive is open to the public. Walk-ins are always welcome. | 18 Page Good Samaritan Thanksgiving Meals Emanuel’s Good Samaritan Program will be putting together boxes for Thanksgiving meals again this year. If you know of any families that could use assistance for Thanksgiving, please call the Emanuel office at 982-5444 and we will do our best to provide them with a food box for Thanksgiving. Good Samaritan Collection There will be a Good Samaritan collection next weekend, Nov. 15, 16 & 17. Instead of putting up a bulletin board with items to donate for Thanksgiving boxes, would you please consider contributing items such as canned corn or green beans, stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, potatoes or jars of gravy. If you would like to donate a pie, call the Emanuel office at 982-5444, as they won’t be needed until Monday, Nov. 24. Please place your items on the tables in the narthex or bring them to the Emanuel office. Donation boxes will be placed by the exits. Piggly Wiggly Receipt Program As of December 31, 2014, Piggly Wiggly will no longer be accepting receipts for the 1% rebate. In order to count and turn in the ones we have before the end of the year, please bring all receipts to the office by December 1. We thank Piggly Wiggly for running this program, which has helped Emanuel with Accelerated Reader and Vacation Bible School over the years. Progression Party Thank You We are very excited to report that our Progression Party was a huge success! We had 85 people for dinner, play and the meeting. God has surely blessed us! Thank you parents for attending and making your child’s education a priority! Thank you to all that donated for our supper in chili supplies and delicious sides and desserts. The children were amazed at how many people cared so much about them. All of your support is so appreciated! | 19 Page NEW CONSTITUTION/VOTER REGISTRY Just a heads up that since we have a revised constitution and bylaws that we have started a new constitution registry. The previous registry was started approximately 40 years ago and contains the names of many members who are no longer with us. Signing of the registry signifies that the individual signing is in agreement with and supportive of the constitution and bylaws that were approved and adopted on June 16, 2014. The constitution registry must be signed by all eligible (18 years of age male members) who intend to vote at any congregational meeting. The opportunity to sign is given at the beginning of all congregational meetings. However, since this is a new registry it will also be available in the Emanuel office for anyone that would like to stop in and make sure that your name is in the registry. Forward in Christ Complementary copies of the November issue of Forward in Christ magazine are available on the table by the Welcome Center or in the Emanuel office. Hat & Mitten Drive Brrrrrr, it's getting to be that time of year again. With the warmth from your hearts, please consider donating any new or gently used mittens or hats for people in need. A Christmas tree is in the narthex where you can clip your donation on the tree. The items will then be distributed. Please have your donations on the tree by December 1. Thanks in advance for your support. Word Wall Update We are flying through our letters and making very long lists of words! We will be taking a break in a few weeks once we get more in to our Christmas practice. So, we will not have letters for a few weeks in December. We are now worked through our words that begin with Gg. The children did a great job of thinking of words by themselves - 36 words all on their own! The total went all the way up to 115 words! | 20 Page Marriage Retreat Mark your calendar for the “With this Ring” marriage retreat. These and many more! There are many paths to God. What kind of God demands worship? There are hypocrites in the church. Religion is a crutch for the weak. Where is God when I’m hurting? I want to feel good about myself. All the church cares about is money. Can a loving God send people to hell? Christianity is so anti-woman. I can’t handle your outdated view of sex. How do I know I’m a Christian? I’ll be rejected by family and friends. You’ve heard the objections, but you don’t feel prepared to answer them. What if, instead of racking our brains for just the right passages, we would begin instead with the right story? A story that sets the living Jesus before their eyes? We might come away concluding, “All I really needed to know I learned in Sunday school.” This approach, called Bible Story Evangelism, might be just what we need, not just to set Jesus before those outside the church but also before those who are in danger of drifting away. Can you tell the story of Peter’s denial? of the Emmaus disciples? of the weeds and the wheat? of Judas’ betrayal? of the woman at the well? of the woman who anointed Jesus with the expensive perfume? Then you’ve already got a vivid way to respond to six of the objections above. Even if you can match them up yourself, we encourage you to join us at 9:15 a.m. in the church proper. We’ll be looking at stories of Jesus and asking ourselves, “Who needs to hear this?” Week 9 – November 9: “The Faith of the Canaanite Woman: Isn’t Christianity anti-woman?” Week 10 – November 16: “Jesus Appears to Thomas: Why can’t I just believe what I see?” | 23 Page Bible Studies for Everyone Exodus The book of Exodus is the history of God's love for His wayward people. Genesis traced the history of God's promise to send a Savior for His rebellious mankind. Genesis ends with the choosing of a family through which that Savior would be sent to the world. Exodus picks up that history of God's plan to save fallen mankind. It demonstrates the detailed care God gave to that family. He repeatedly forgives, calls the family back into His kingdom, and continues nurtures them after they had rebelled against Him. In the history of the Israelites we can see our own history as God continues to offer His Grace to us even though we often demonstrate our disloyalty to Him. Tuesday evenings 7:00 to 9:00 – through December 16, Mr. Krause In the Community Room The Bible The A&E Network presented a ten episode series called “The Bible.” In that series, the history presented in the Bible has been broken into ten brief segments. There are five segments on the Old Testament and five segments on the New Testament. We will view these segments one at a time and discuss them as they relate to the Bible. We will notice the time span of history has been compressed. They did try to be true to the Word, but at times used some poetic license to move the history along. We will strive to accomplish our purpose by: Providing opportunities for women to study God’s Word together in Bible classes Connecting various groups of women with similar interests through small groups for fun and encouragement Promoting and sponsoring fellowship events for girls and women Encouraging women to discover what their gifts and talents are and to use them to build up the Kingdom for Christ | 28 Page | 29 Page Volunteer Schedules Communion Servers November 8-9-10: (5:15) Dave Neumann, Dale Krause, Lee Shaw; (8:00) Rich Platz, Ron Steinhorst, Randy Behnke; (10:30) Drew Kock, Bruce Davis, Dave Meyer; (6:30) Roger Mathison Greeters November 8-9-10: (5:15) M/M Gary Weyenberg, M/M Lee Shaw; (8:00) Judy Gorges, M/M Karl Bruehl, M/M Carl Gloede; (10:30) Dolores Handschke, M/M Arnie Heise, Ione Dorschner; (6:30) Arlene Birkholz November 15-16-17: (5:15) M/M John Truby, Angie Kamba; (8:00) Keith Stern, M/M Jeff Schabo, M/M Roger Thielen; (10:30) Evelyn Rosenow, Laureen Gagnow, M/M Jerry Kuppernus; (6:30) M/M Ozzie Radtke Sound-Booth November 8-9-10: (5:15) Don Schmoll; (8:00) Micah Backus; (10:30) Ken Johnson; (6:30) Joe Dexter November 15-16-17: (5:15) Don Schmoll; (8:00) Micah Backus; (10:30) Ken Johnson; (6:30) Scarlett Polley Ushers The Month of November: (5:15) Kenny Olson, Laurie Thomack; (8:00) Barry Hoewisch, Harry Blum, Danke/Krause/Ehlke; (10:30) Al Tank, Bob Danke, Scott Lenzner; (6:30) Mike Knapp, volunteers needed Welcome/Information Center November 8-9-10: (5:15) Dan & Marj Handschke; (8:00) Vickie Much; (10:30) Joanne Kuppernus; (6:30) Marcia Rhone November 15-16-17: (5:15) Lee & Judy Shaw; (8:00) Ruth Littmann; (10:30) Ione Dorschner; (6:30) Ron & Ann Wege | 30 Page After the Sermon….. 1.
