GUESTS
PEDRO MARTIN
Pedro Martin is a Consulting Artist at Hallmark Cards and a
graduate of San Jose State University. A 22-year veteran of
the greeting card biz and a few children’s books, Pedro has
recently branched out into the world of animation with work
on hoops&yoyo Ruin Christmas, hoops&yoyo’s Haunted
Halloween as well as his own on-line animated character
Asteroid Andy. Son of a sharecropper and one of nine kids,
Pedro spent a lot of time avoiding big brothers, chores and
exercise by crawling into comic books. Drawing, storytelling
and very average trombone playing became his calling,
and he followed his dream to Kansas City, Missouri. There
he met his beautiful and talented wife, Gina, who lovingly
tolerates his 12-year-old-boy sensibilities.
Pedro hardly has time for the trombone, which is not a great
loss to tromboning. Or, the trombone community.
C AT S KO RU P S K I
Cat Skorupski is a writer as well as a singer/songwriter and
voiceover artist for Hallmark. She writes greeting cards—both
the heartfelt ones and the less-than-serious ones. She also is
the author of several children’s books from Hallmark, including
“The Wish My Heart Makes for You,” “What Makes a Princess?” and “Princess Millie’s Magic Wand.” Cat has performed
hundreds of voiceovers for products like Keepsake Ornaments,
sound-enabled cards and gift products, in particular Hallmark’s
plush products. She is the voice of the Squawkin’ Egg-Droppin’ Mama Hen plush, which can be found on YouTube
because of its excessive quirkiness. Cat grew up in New Jersey
and has been singing since she was a kid—the first song she
ever sang was “I Wanna Rock and Roll All Night” by Kiss. She’s
married with two small kids and a dog.
B I L L G R AY
Bill Gray writes jokes, songs and kids’ books for Hallmark.
When he’s not at work, he plays and sings in a folk trio called
Anchovy Fishermen, reads history and probably watches too
much TV for his own good. He’s a huge fan of Cat Skorupski.
JOEL NICHOLS
Born in a small Wisconsin River town, Joel got his first broadcasting job at the age of three due to his amazing grasp of
current events, articulate delivery and, perhaps most importantly, his Dad ran the local radio station. At that point, Joel
worked for chocolate milk and Oreos.
Joel moved to Las Vegas after high school to try his hand...
well, both hands...at playing the piano and singing. Very
shortly after his arrival in Glitter Gulch, Joel discovered that
his talents as an entertainer made him best suited to be a
front desk clerk at the now long gone, Rainbow Vegas Hotel.
Returning to Wisconsin, Joel got his degree in Education
from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He worked as a
legislative aide to a state representative for a couple years
and also began working at a local cable TV station. After
working as a reporter and weatherman at WMTV, the NBC affiliate in Madison, Joel came to Kansas City where he helped
folks start their days beginning in 1988. Now, alongside the
marvelous Michelle Davidson, Joel co-hosts Kansas City Live
each morning at 10 am on KSHB.
Over the years, Joel has been a broadcasting jack of all
trades including hosting a childrens’ show, interview show
and doing hundreds of feature stories about Kansas City.
Joel and his wife, Jessica, are the proud parents of four great
children and have, for more than 25 years been happy to call
The KC area home sweet home.
AURELIEN COLLIN
The fourth-year Frenchman is a three-time MLS All-Star
(2012, 2013, 2014) and earned MLS Best XI honors in 2012
and 2013. Collin was named 2013 MLS Cup MVP after scoring the equalizing goal and converting the match-winning
penalty kick vs. Real Salt Lake at Sporting Park. The Paris
native was acquired in April 2011 after playing professionally
in Scotland, Greece, Wales and Portugal. Collin is second in
club history for most MLS goals scored by a defender with
15, two shy of Jimmy Conrad.
