KEEPING IT TOGETHER
The Shabbos Project at Young Israel of North Woodmere begins tonight at 5:50pm
featuring an abbreviated Carlebach Kabbalat Shabbat starring softball MVP Avi Katz. Then,
after dinner, join the entire North Woodmere community for an oneg at 9:00pm the home
of Chully and Tamar Fass, 770 Plainfield Lane.
In addition, please consider: Sponsoring the Shabbos Project at $25 a sponsor and $50 a
patron. All money collected will go to help defray the costs of the oneg.
Tomorrow night, there are two major must-attend event: The Havdalah concert by North
Woodmere’s own Hockerbeats aka Shma Koleinu (opening for the Maccabeats) at Beth
Shalom at 9:00pm. Then,to cap the Shabbat experience in an incredible way exclusive for
North Woodmere, make your way to Ohr Torah at 10:00pm. Our good friend, Av Rodin
has arranged for a special evening to benefit Gift of Life with Yakov Shwekey leading an
inspiring kumzits. The event is in honor of Av’s mentor and friend, Ivan Sacks, a pillar of ‫דסח‬
in his community and to learn from a man who has inspired many with his own story of
‫ הבושת‬and the incredible ‫ ןוחטב‬he has displayed through his illness. Gift of Life will be setting
up swabbing stations before and after the singing.

Mazal Tov to our dear members, Amy and Jordan Hiller, upon the Bat Mitzvah of their
daughter, Cory. Mazal Tov to big sister, Maya, and brother, Jack. Mazal Tov as well to
grandparents, Susan and Michael Schneider, Natalie and Danny Hiller and to the entire
Schneider and Hiller families. Kiddush is sponsored by Amy and Jordan Hiller in honor of
Cory on this joyous occasion.
Mazal Tov to our dear members, Enid and Rabbi Jeff Miller, on the birth of a grandson this
past erev Shabbat, born to their beloved children, Sarah and Rabbi Avi Miller. The Shalom
Zachor will take place this Friday night, October 24th, at 8:30pm in the Cocktail Room at
Beth Sholom, 390 Broadway in Lawrence, and the Bris will take place, B’H, at Beth Shalom
at 4:45pm on Shabbat, October 25th.
Condolences
We regret to inform you of the passing of our dear and founding member, Sam Bernstein,
Shmuel Zangvel ben Yaakov HaLevi, a”h, beloved husband of our dear member, Sylvia
Bernstein. The family will be sitting shiva until Tuesday morning, October 28th, at the
Bernstein home, 719 Hungry Harbor Road.
We regret to inform you of the passing of Sheran Kohn, a”h, beloved sister of our dear
member, Rhoda Dane.

is currently cycling in Israel to benefit the worthy charity that is most close to his heart: Beit

Presbyterian Hospital.
Sign of the Apocalypse?
After a 5-year drought, North Woodmere is back in the softball finals. This Monday night
the North Woodmere Avengers will take on the Far Rockaway Sandmen for the Croton
League Title! Game starts 9:45pm at North Woodmere Park. Come out and cheer on your
favorite NW All Stars! Congratulations to North Woodmere Avengers, Jack Aspir, Gordon
Zisholtz, Avi Davies, Avi Katz, Tzvi Cohen, Michael Posy, Dan Herschberg, Jordan Hiller, Eric

women who are victims of abuse, is having an event on Tuesday night, November 11th at
7:45pm at Sephardic Temple. Come watch Naomi Ackerman in her dramatic performance
of Flowers Aren’t Enough presented by Shalom Task Force. A Q&A will follow the show.
