OBJECTIVES OF THE RESEARCH METHODOLOGY COURSE
At the end of the course the participants will be able to:
1. Compare and contrast assumptions and theoretical underpinnings of
qualitative and quantitative research designs.
2. Select a researchable problem, state a hypothesis or research question, and
frame study objectives;
3. Search, review and critically evaluate research literature;
4. Apply knowledge of quantitative research methods in identifying
appropriate designs, sampling, data collection, and descriptive and
inferential analytic procedures for the study of specific health related
problems;
5. Demonstrate knowledge of instrument development and evaluation;
6. Describe the appropriate use and selection of statistical packages for data
analysis;
7. Identify research problems that are appropriate for different qualitative
designs;
8. Explain key elements of sampling, data collection and analysis in qualitative
research;
9. Analyze the rigor/quality associated with qualitative methods;
10.Explain the key elements of a research proposal/synopsis;
11.Critically evaluate research studies;
12.Explain what is involved in writing of a scientific paper for publication.
