National Tourist Route Andøya is 58 km long and travels between Bjørnskinn and
Andenes.
Andøya – Where the ocean comes ashore
A drive along the outer edge of the island; an alternative route, together with Senja, to
the E6 and the Hurtigruta coastal steamer. On the drive through landscape unprotected
from the Norwegian Sea, the fishing village of Bleik depicts the encounter between man
and nature.
The greatest experience is actually just being in Lofoten at this time of year. Watch the
fish being hung out on the drying racks. Enjoy life in the harbour in the fishing villages.
Have a "skreimølje" dinner and enjoy this local cod dish. Chat to the local fishermen in
one of the pubs. Sun for breakfast, storm for dinner and a calm sea for supper.

In Lofoten, Hurtigruten stops at
Stamsund and Svolvær every day both
by the north-bound and the south-bound
routes. In summer you also can visit
Raftsundet and Trollfjorden by travelling
with Hurtigruten between Stokmarknes and Svolvær.
Vesterålen was the name of the first coastal ship and is carried proudly by her modern
counterpart. MS Vesterålen was built in 1983 and is named after the first Hurtigruten ship
to sail in 1893, DS Vesterålen. Vesterålen is also the name of the area in which
Hurtigruten's first home port, Stokmarknes, is situated. Vesterålen lies just north of
Lofoten and is home to some of the most beautiful scenery of the coastal voyage. The
ship is one of the smallest ships in the fleet. She was upgraded both in 1988 and 1995,
and is characterised by her bright, cheerful public areas and lounges. Throughout your
voyage you will enjoy views from the panorama lounge and notice the extensive art
collection on board. With the limited passenger capacity, a voyage on MS Vesterålen is
truly something special.
