CCNH Auxiliary Memorials
Mary Hodson, Auxiliary Member
Members of the nursing home Auxiliary volunteer to bring happiness into the
lives of the residents of Champaign
County Nursing Home. There are several
service opportunities for Auxiliary members, including helping at the "Busy Bee"
shop. Over forty years ago, Gloria
Mueller and other Auxiliary members
started the Thursday morning sing-alongs and the residents still enjoy them.
The Auxiliary uses funds from the Busy
Bee and other fundraisers for equipment
and activities that residents and their
families can enjoy. We recently purchased the new popcorn machine and
cart and new equipment for the Beauty
Shop.
We also want to thank the families who
have made gifts in memory of their loved
ones who lived at CCNH. Your donations were used to purchase the new patio furniture in the courtyard.
No practice is required, just a
desire to sing and bring joy to
the residents of CCNH!
If you like to help bring joy into the lives
of others, please consider volunteering
and joining the Auxiliary! Dues are
just $5! Contact Volunteer Coordinator ,Brandie Santefort at 693-5016. And
if you are free any Thursday from 10-11
AM, please join our sing-a-long.

LaundryJosh Drake, Marketing & Admissions, ext. 5040
A PIP (Performance Improvement Project) was implemented on each one of the units in the facility and in laundry. The “PIP” is to cut down on the missing clothing items of residents throughout the facility. Blue binders marked
“Lost Clothing” are on each unit and those binders provide proper paperwork for reporting lost items from resident or
families.
Laundry will look in the booklets and collect paperwork on a daily basis and search in laundry for any missing
items. In return, any unidentified clothing will be listed on paperwork from laundry and placed in the blue binder on
the unit. This is for staff members to check first for reported missing items that are presented by residents or families.
Also established is that every new resident, short or long term, will have their clothing labeled in case one of their
items are reported missing. Families are being asked to label clothing upon admission until the clothing can be steam
labeled by our volunteer/laundry staff. Also, any new clothing brought into the facility should also be labeled by the
resident family member before placing in the wardrobe cabinet to assure new items are properly marked.
Dietary DepartmentRegistered Dietician, Emily Seidel, ext. 6190
Greetings from the Dietary Department!
Please help us welcome the new dietary
staff! Including Richard Frank, the Dietary Manager. The department recently
hired five new employees. These new staff
members completed 2 weeks of training
and are now doing all job tasks independently. An additional four employees
will be joining the team after orientation
on October 7th. Increased staff means less
late meals and increased accuracy. Another change in the dietary department includes the addition of soup and salad to
lunch and dinner menus! Residents have
the ability to select the soup of the day or
salad if they chose to do so. Fruit, cottage
cheese, peanut butter and jelly, and
grilled cheese has also been added to the
menus and can be selected at any time the
main entrée does not appeal to the resident. An alternative menu is in the works
as well which would allow the resident to
select from a list of foods which can be
served at any time the kitchen is open.
Adding these options for residents will
increase food preference adherence and
resident satisfaction. Holidays are a great
way to spend time with family and create
memories. If you wish to join a resident at

October Celebrates the start of fall, pumpkins, beautiful weather and National Physical Therapy Month!
“Move Forward: Physical Therapy Brings Motion to Life” This is the theme for National Physical Month. This theme reminds us that motion is
anti- aging. We sometimes tend to take movement for granted until we lose it. Physical Therapy Professionals are experts in the way the body
moves. We can help improve quality of life by helping people move freely and perform movement without pain and discomfort.
The PT Staff at CCNH love their profession. Here are some quotes from our Staff“ I have always thought of my role as more of a teacher. I can’t wave a magic wand and make it all better. I can’t force someone to move their
body. But, when someone reaches their goals because they understood what I said, trusted my opinion and did what I suggested, it’s an awesome
feeling.”- Kimberly Long, Director of Rehabilitation
“ I have been a PTA for 19 years and while I have worked in just about every setting, my heart is with the geriatric population. I love the stories of
their lives and the history they represent. I have met and worked with survivors of Pearl Harbor, D-Day and Battle of the Bulge. When I was
traveling, I met musicians who worked with Elvis and people from the movie industry who had stories to tell! I feel honored to have met these
people and heard their tales.” - Ken Barham, PTA
“My favorite part of being a Physical Therapist is rehabbing people from injury back to their previous lifestyle.” - Ann Fouke, PT
Work OrdersAt CCNH we want to make sure everything is in working order and well maintained. If your loved one has something

Activities Department–
Patti Dumach, Activity Director
I am taking this opportunity to provide information about our daily activity programming
at CCNH. We are proud to offer many programs that provide meaningful and purposeful
life enrichment to the residents. Leisure activities are a vital part of physical healing and
psychological well-being. Residents are offered activities in each of the six dimensions:
social, spiritual, physical, intellectual, occupational and emotional wellness.
Our monthly calendar offers a variety of these
programs as well as smaller group activities
for those that are unable or choose not to join
in large social gatherings. One-to-one visits
are offered for residents that are bed bound or
in need of additional interaction.
We offer monthly social events including,
holiday celebrations and special themed
events. Spirituality is a large part of our
monthly calendar including, Sunday church
services, Friday mass, and bible study every
Monday afternoon.
Physical games and morning exercise are offered several times weekly to promote exercise in a fun and competitive way. Many intellectual gatherings are offered monthly such as
book club, group discussions and current
events. Occupational and emotional wellness
are addressed in our volunteer project where
residents are encouraged to give back to the
community in a service project.
Involvement in social relationships is a vital
aspect of life and continues to be the focus of
our activity program at CCNH. A relationship
with others increases our sense of self worth
and identity and improves our moods. Belonging to a group, sharing conversation, and
continuing to establish friendships are
the fundamental goal of each activity program offered.
