PARKER COUNTY WOMEN’S AND NEWCOMERS’ CLUB November 2014 Volume 17 Issue 3 From the President PCWNC’S Dana Cook 2014-2015 Theme: “Cowgirl Strong” November 14th General Meeting Place: First United Methodist Church, Family Life Center 301 S. Main St., Wfd. Social Time: 9:30 Club Shop: open at General Meetings from 9:30 – 10:30 and briefly after lunch Soon the colors of the leaves will be changing from green to beautiful shades of reds, purples, and golds. Change is in the air! As most of you have heard by now, change is in the air for PCWNC, too. We're moving to a new meeting home at the First United Methodist Church of Weatherford. We will hold our first meeting in their Family Life Center on November 14th. The notice of the change of meeting location came up quickly and as a surprise for many members. It also came up quickly for the board. I want to take this opportunity to give all of you the background of why the change of meeting venue is necessary. First, the posted maximum capacity for the Texas Hall in the Alkek Fine Arts Center at Weatherford College is 81. This maximum is set by the Fire Marshal for everyone's safety in case of an emergency. It is not negotiable. For the last several months we have been running consistently over the maximum attending our meetings. Shortly after the September meeting we were told by Weatherford College staff that due to the fire safety code they just could not allow us to have more than 81 people in the room. We had outgrown our meeting place. The numbers for members attending our meetings being up is a good thing! We want all of our members to attend and to have a place to sit at a table to socialize and enjoy the programs. After multiple calls to many facilities the board decided that the best site for our monthly meetings was the Family Life Center at the First United Methodist Church of Weatherford. The First United Methodist Church is allowing us to meet there at no monthly charge. (Message from Dana continued on page 3) Thought for the Month Friends find the sweetest sense of happiness comes from simply being together Meeting: 10:30 Cost: $10 for lunch, $1 for drinks only Program: Alyssa Robbins of Casa Mañana will perform some musical numbers and give us information about Casa Mañana. In the interest of time, please give announcements by phone or email to Dana Cook (817-966-0154, [email protected]) by the Wednesday before each meeting. She’ll be happy to read them at the meeting. For those desiring to make a report, please let Dana know before the meeting. Reservation Reminder A reservation made is a reservation paid.
