Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Messages From Fr. Mike
The most important hour of every week is the time
when we gather as a faith community in church to celebrate
Mass. It is here where we praise and worship God as His
grateful children and receive the graces we need and the
spiritual nourishment of Jesus himself in
Holy Communion to sustain us to face the
challenges of the week ahead. This Monday
we begin our 4-week study of the Parts of
the Mass at 7 PM in our school hall. I’m
confident that this series will help many of
our parishioners grow in their understanding
and appreciation for this beautiful form of
worship.
Next Saturday, November 1st, we
celebrate All Saints Day, honoring the holy
men and women who lived holy lives and
are now with God in heaven. This feast is
also a reminder to us that we are all called to holiness.
Since it falls on a Saturday this year, it is not a day of
obligatory Mass attendance, but we are still offering All
Saints Masses on Friday at 7 PM and on Saturday at 7:30
AM and 10 AM in our church. Many of us have a special
love and devotion for certain saints, and this is our
opportunity to recognize and honor them.
We are a people of hope, for our faith assures us that
death marks the passage from this earthly life to eternal life,
where we will experience perfect peace and happiness with
God and all the saints. Next Sunday is All Souls Day, a day
when we offer special recognition to all our departed
parishioners and loved ones who have passed from this life.
Our Sunday Masses next weekend will all be offered for our
deceased loved ones whose names have been submitted on
our All Souls envelopes, and additional envelopes may be
found by our church exits. During the month of November
a series of Masses will be offered for this intention.
On Tuesday, November 4th, we are joining with the
Bordentown Home for Funerals in offering a special Mass
of Remembrance for families who have lost a loved one
during the past year. The names of our departed loved ones
will be recited during the Mass, and their families will
receive a keepsake candle. If you would like someone
remembered at this special Mass, please fill out a response
form in the back of church and either drop it in the box
there or in the collection basket.
Once again this year our St. Vincent de Paul Society is
sponsoring a Thanksgiving Food Drive project to provide
Thanksgiving baskets for the needy area families they
support and also to provide food for our Food Pantry
clients. See the flier in today’s bulletin for complete
information about this worthy project—I encourage your
support. Feeding the hungry is the first of the Corporal
Works of Mercy.
We had beautiful Fall weather last weekend for the
Bordentown Area CROP Walk, and although there were
only a few walkers this year, well over $1,000 was raised to

St. Mary’s Community Food Pantry
At present time we are assisting 48
families a week at the food pantry. With the
holidays quickly approaching our numbers will
continue to grow. Please consider “paying it
forward” with a donation to the food pantry.
Food Items Needed: canned meat, canned
veggies, canned soup with meat, canned fruit,
cereal , tuna, peanut butter, jelly, canned fruit
and veggies, and SpaghettiOs.
Our food pantry hours are as follows: M-W-F 2-3:00 PM;

Next Sunday is All Souls Day, when the Church
honors all the faithful who have passed from this life. All
our Sunday Masses that day will be offered for all our
deceased parishioners and loved ones whose names are
submitted on our All Souls envelopes, and during November

Marriage Appreciation Event – Nov 8th
The United States Council of Catholic Bishops has designated
this year to honor those who have received or are about to
receive the sacrament of marriage. Our parish has set aside
Saturday November 8th to do just that. The event is from 9
AM to 12 noon. Babysitting will be provided. During the event
we will do several things to honor those couples who are living
their Catholic faith through the sacrament of marriage,
including ending with a light lunch. Please sign up for the
event in the back of the church under the poster for the event;

just need to know how much food to prepare. Please set
aside the morning of Nov 8th and let us as a parish honor you

Readings for Sunday, November 2, 2014:
Wisdom 3:1–9
Wisdom offers great comfort to all of us who have experienced
loss and grief and it offers us hope for our own immortality.
The souls of the just are with God and living in peace. The
author affirms that for the righteous, sufferings are not
punishments but are purifications and opportunities to show
fidelity to God. In the time of their visitation (judgement),
they shall shine like sparks from a raging fire and they shall
know the truth and shall abide with God in love. In Jesus, we
will see our loved ones again and what a wonderful reunion it
will be. The next time we experience sufferings or troubles or
frustrations, let's ask God what areas of our lives are being
purified.
Psalm 23:1-6
The Lord is my shepherd; there's nothing I shall want.
Romans 5:5–11
Paul reminds us that God's love is unconditional, that He gave
us the greatest gift of all, His own Son who would die for us.
"The crucifixion of Jesus Christ displays God’s initiative in
certifying humanity for unimpeded access into the divine
presence. Reconciliation is God’s gift of pardon to the entire
human race. "(USCCB). God proves His love for us in that
while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. If God did all
that before we were justified, Paul says, imagine how much
more God will do for us now that we live in the grace and
reconciliation Christ won for us through his death.
Gospel - John 6:37-40
Today's Gospel follows the multiplication of the loaves and
Jesus' assertion that He is "the bread of life" and those that
come to Him will neither hunger nor thirst. Jesus then adds
that His only agenda is to do His Father's will; Jesus is a
perfect example of Christian humility for He, the Divine Son,
submits His will entirely to the will of the Father. "For this is
the will of the Father, that everyone who sees the Son and
believes in Him may have eternal life and I shall raise him up
on the last day." St. Faustina writes in her Diary... "Know that it
will cost you much, so write on the clean sheet of paper:
‘From today on, my own will does not exist, and then cross out
the page’. And on the other side write these words: ‘From

Traveling Faith – Oct 2014 – Power of the Rosary
This month’s Traveling Faith CD is on the Power and
Promises of the Rosary. Since Oct 7th is the memorial of
Our Lady of the Rosary, it seemed only fitting to have a talk
on the Rosary available for the parish to listen to in their cars
as they travel around this great state of New Jersey. Once
again you can find them on the table at the back of the
church. We will replenish them all month, so if there are
none when you check at the table, check back again next
week and there should be more. For more info call the

Consolidated Fire Association (298-4761) is
hosting a $1,000 Bingo at St. Mary’s school
hall, every Wednesday evening.

Supporting ALS Research
The "ice bucket challenge" to raise support for ALS
research has gone viral in recent weeks, drawing celebrities,
everyday people and even cartoon character Homer
Simpson.
The ALS Association acknowledges using
embryonic stem cell research in one specific study; the
Church as you are aware opposes embryonic research using
cells from unborn children and fertilized eggs.
WE DO HAVE AN ALTERNATIVE TO WHICH
WE CAN LEND OUR SUPPORT—The John Paul II
Medical Research Institute in Iowa City, Iowa sponsors
ethical ALS research without using embryonic stem cells, as
well as other research on diseases. The Research Institute

Is God Calling You to be a Chaplain Aide?
VOLUNTEER CHAPLAIN AIDES are needed at Virtua
Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly. There are openings for
trained lay visitors seven days a week. Following a training
and orientation process, an Aide may donate two to four
hours each week to visit patients, offering them friendship
and spiritual comfort. Eucharistic Ministers are also needed
seven days a week to bring Holy Communion to Catholic
patients. Catholic volunteers may offer their time and
talents to be a Chaplain Aide and/or an Extraordinary
Minister of Holy Communion. For more information,

October 26, 2014: 30th Sunday in Ordinary time
In this Sunday’s Gospel we find the truth that loving
God isn’t merely a matter of fervor in our hearts, but that it
must be expressed in doing good for the sake of others.
This weekend we are happy to kick off
our 2nd annual Thanks-Giving Food Drive.
Food and monetary donations will be
accepted to provide Thanksgiving baskets to
the guests of the St. Vincent de Paul Society
and to provide the guests of the food pantry
with food for their Thanksgiving dinners.
