Dear Parents,
2015 Enrolments and Departures
Our student numbers for 2015 are progressing well and it was delightful this morning to have our Norman Parkie Preppies visit our school to feel more at ease in
readiness for their start next year.
Please notify the school if your child/children will be departing our school or enrol them now if eligible for enrolment according to our School Enrolment
Management Plan as the numbers at our school have a high impact on our organisation of facilities, staffing and resourcing.
NPSS Enrolment Management Plan
Our School's Enrolment Management Plan states that any student whose principal place of residence is within the school's catchment is eligible for enrolment at
our school. To this end, students enrolling in 2015 will need to show current proof of residency by way of one of each of the following:
• One primary source - a current lease agreement, or driver's licence, or unconditional sale agreement, and
• One secondary source - a utility bill (eg: electricity, gas, water) or rates notice showing the same address and parent's/guardian's name
Please note that siblings of current students at the school will be deemed eligible for enrolment and will not be required to show current proof of residency.
ICAS English, Writing and Mathematics Competitions
Congratulations to the NPSS students who participated in the ICAS English, Writing and Mathematics Competitions last term. A special congratulations
to Rachael Young, Annelies Alcorn and Prisvith Patil for their High Distinctions.

Our students who achieved High Distinctions, Distinctions and Credits will be presented with their certificates at next week’s Years 3-7 School Assembly on
Tuesday 28 October, 2014 at 2.30pm.
Students who receive Merit and Participation certificates will be presented with these certificates in class.
World Teachers’ Day - 31 October
Next Friday we celebrate the great work of our teachers on World Teachers’ Day. The quality teaching in effect in our classrooms every day has a powerful
effect on students’ performance. Visit http://education.qld.gov.au/community/events/world-teachers-day.html for more information.
Please join us to acknowledge their work on Friday at our Special Assembly at 9:00am in the hall.
Student Safety
After Daniel Morcombe's disappearance in 2003, his parents, Denise and Bruce started the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. From then on, they travelled around
Australia teaching school children about their safety when they are out and about and also informing them on what happened to Daniel. On Friday 31 October,
Norman Park State School is having a Day for Daniel, where the students are asked to wear red. It can be anything from a shirt to a hat or even a ribbon, but
keep in mind sun safety when choosing these items.
Students are required to bring a gold coin donation if they are wearing red. That doesn't mean that if you don't wear red, you can't donate! All the donations will
go to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. We hope you can help this wonderful cause and don't forget to wear red this Friday!
Please follow-up this week to reinforce student safety strategies at this time as it is pertinent with teachers discussing safety strategies with your children and we
will be highlighting student safety as part of a lead up to Day for Daniel.
Be aware of the need for spyware programs and settings to protect family information from ‘hackers’ and remind children about the need to protect themselves
online through non-disclosures of ‘personal’ information too.
Student References
Just to let you know that teachers are required to provide parents with two written reports each year which are provided to you as ‘Student Report Cards’. These
report cards are very comprehensive and include academic, effort and behaviour ratings and comments from teachers.
Teachers are not required to write student references.
Serious Allergies
I wish to remind our school community that some of the students at the school have a serious allergy to peanuts and their by-products. As a result of this allergy,
these students are at risk of an Anaphylactic Shock—a life threatening condition. Further information about this can be found at www.allergy.org.au.
It would be appreciated if parents would consider this when preparing school lunches for your children as nut residue on children's hands or breath vapours can,
in some children, transfer and cause the severe reaction.
Additionally, sometimes parents send birthday cakes and other treats for special occasions involving their child or the class. If in doubt, please consult your
child’s teacher. Again we seek the co-operation of the school community in ensuring the safest possible environment for our students.
Road Safety
Reminder about parents to please refrain from blocking the School Street intersection whilst waiting to move into the Stop, Drop and Go Zone and the following
points:
• No U-turns from the Hipwood Street Stop, Drop and Go Zone
• No U-turns on the Agnew Street School Crossing, and
• Please do not park on the yellow lines.
Summer Storms
We would like to advise you that we would delay exit from the school until any perceived danger has passed in the event of extreme weather or a deluge of rain
around 3:00pm on a school day that may impact on a safe exit by students.

Deputy Principal Report
Dear Parents and Students,
Assessment and Reporting
Our teaching staff are finalising the collation of assessment data on every student, ready for moderation in their year level cohort teams. This information will
guide the decisions to be made when assigning ratings for each Key Learning Area. Each student will be assessed on a folio of work in each KLA, not just 1
piece of assessment. Teachers have been diligently communicating with families throughout the year to ensure that parents are aware of their child’s progress. If
you would like more information please contact your child’s teacher to arrange a suitable time to meet to discuss your child’s progress.
Debating Congratulations
Last night our Year 6/7 team presented a very convincing debate to win by 1 point against St Matthews Catholic College. Methai Chrzczonowicz, Mehek
Mahajan, Annelies Alcorn and Daniel Santic presented strong arguments to defend their negative side to the topic that ‘Disney sends the wrong message’. The
adjudicator gave very positive and constructive feedback, stating that the team was well prepared, including the use of convincing rebuttal statements. She
applauded their ability to stay calm and relaxed even when faced with a difficult moment. Well done to everyone involved in the Debating Program, especially
Ms Leach, Mr Cran and Mrs Stuhmcke.
Day for Daniel and World Teachers’ Day – Friday 31 October 2014
Students are invited to wear red on this special day when the Student Council will be working with Miss Duncan and 1D to provide icy cups to purchase for
$1.00 to raise money for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. We will also be celebrating the diligent work and commitment of our teaching staff. Please get
involved in these 2 wonderful events.

Many thanks to our parents Jenny Peacock and Lana Le who have been assisting our SWPBS committee and students as we design a new SWPBS school logo.
This exciting process has seen every student in the school involved in the creation process. We are close to its completion now, ready for 2015.
This week we are revising our STEPS and High 5.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any further assistance.

As the library will be undergoing a stocktake towards the end of term, could you polease remind your students to observe the following dates?
I would also like to ask parents and families to be on the lookout for any stray Home Readers that may be around the home. Could you please return any of these either to your child’s
teacher, or directly to the library? Thank you for helping us maintain our library collection.

Congratulations
James Lehmann performed very well at the State Athletics Competition at QE 11. He came 6th in the final of the 100 metres with a personal best and he was in the winning relay team for the
100m relay. Well done James as this level takes motivation and persistence to achieve selection and such great results.
Swimming
Swimming continues throughout Term 4 for all students as we build towards the Swimming Carnivals. All students are trying hard and progressing their stroke in preparation for these
events. Please ensure students are bringing their swimming gear each week including cap and goggles.
Intraschool Sport
Intraschool Sport is into its third week for students in Years 57. After interschool sport was cancelled we decided to continue Friday afternoon sport as an important activity for our senior
students. Students have been enjoying European Handball, Beanbag Netball and Swimming as part of their rotations. Thankyou to the teachers for helping to facilitate these activities for
our students.

Dolphins Swimming Club News
The Dolphins had another big Friday last week as the kids began competing in distance races. Many heroic efforts were seen as our young swimmers put
their racing skills to the test in a fun, social and supportive environment.
This Friday is our third club night and no doubt we will see more of our youngsters racing 25 or 50 metres for the first time and our senior swimmers
enthralling the crowd with fast competitive races.
The Norman Park Dolphins swim every Friday night from 5:30pm til 7:30ish. We have a BBQ dinner and loads of racing action for the kids. Please contact Simon Dent if you have any queries
about the Dolphins Swim Club at [email protected] and/or check out our page on the school website under Clubs and Societies.
