about God, the Bible and the spiritual life. Thank you as well to Norma
Carson, Pat Marusarz, Joann McNicholas and the women of World
Service for their hard work piecing the quilt together and quilting the 8
foot square quilt. The quilt will be hung in the church narthex on
November 9. Be sure to stop by and examine all the artwork.
Lunch Bunch goes to lunch in different places each Sunday after
worship. If you would like to have lunch with a bunch, instead of being
alone, please consider yourself invited. The group usually gathers in the
Narthex to go. A schedule of future places is posted on the bulletin
board. Today, according to that schedule, the “bunch” is lunching at

First Wednesday Book Club meets on November 5. The book to be
discussed is The Pearl, by John Steinbeck. This is an exciting and classic
fable. It is the story of a fisherman who found a pearl beyond price, the
Pearl of the World. With the pearl, he hoped to buy peace and happiness
for himself, his wife and their little son. Instead he found that peace and
happiness are not to be purchased. They are, themselves, pearls beyond
price. There are copies of this book available to borrow in the church
library on the book check out shelf. Please follow the directions for
borrowing the book. Kristin Kruzich will be leading the discussion in
November, and all are welcome to participate.
Help needed! We need to add to the rotation of Ushers, Scripture
Readers and those who lead the congregation in the Prayers of the
People. If you would be interested in participating in the worship
leadership of the church in one of these ways, please let Pastor Carlton
know!
WORLD SERVICE is collecting items to be given to the homeless and
children's homes. WANTED: sample size shampoos and conditioners,
toothpaste, toothbrushes, bars of soap, Campbell’s soup labels, box tops
for education. Place your donations in the Campbell’s Soup container in
the church office.
PADS is starting! We need some cooks for dinners on Fridays. We also
need some helpers. If you are able to do either or both, please see Anita
Stocks. The first Friday in November will be our first night. Thank you!
Caring Adult Ministry seeks to care for the senior members of our
congregation by visiting those who are homebound. We are looking for
additional volunteers to help with this important ministry. If you would
like to be a visitor to our homebound, please speak with Pastor Carlton,
Melissa Klockow or Amber Chapman.
Third Quarter giving records are now available. If you would like a copy
of your giving record, contact Dorothy at church by phone, or email
[email protected] and she will be happy to accommodate you.
We are now entering the Stewardship Season at PPPCC. This year our
focus will be on Fulfilling the Mission that God has given for our church
to do. Our four-fold mission is: Know God’s Word, Show Christ’s Love, Go
in the Spirit of Service and Grow the Body of Christ. Over the next four
Sundays, one of these mission initiatives will be highlighted in worship.
Today’s focus is on: GO in the Spirit of Service. Please see the insert for
further explanation of this part of our mission.
Thank you to our Deacons and the Funeral Committee for preparing
the luncheon this past Monday after the Memorial Service for Ken Gill.
If you brought in food for the funeral luncheon, please stop by and pick up
your dishes. We are hosting the Presbytery on November 15 and we don’t want
your dishes to accidentally disappear. Thank you!

Fulfilling the Mission
Utilizing the resources of time, talent and treasure to fulfill Christ’s
calling for our church to:
Know God’s Word
Show Christ's Love In Care for One Another
Go in the Spirit of Service
and
Grow New Life in Christ.
This week's focus is: Go in the Spirit of Service.
The GO initiative at PPPCC involves both our evangelism and mission
efforts. Our church has had a deep history of supporting missionaries
throughout the world and in recent years has sought to expand our
sphere of local missions as well. We support missionaries overseas in
a wide range of ministries including:
Jeff Burns
Frontier Fellowship (Callisons)
Hearts in Motion (Sheeringa)
Interserve (Stocks & Treeces)
Mission Aviation Fellowship (Cedergren)
Outreach Foundation (Haspels, Lims & Todd Luke)
Wycliff Bible Translators (Ken & Joyce Prettol)
Zach & Shellie Maddox
Glenn & Susan Hershberger
Ripe For Harvest (Bowen)
PPPCC also supports a wide range of National and Local Missions
including:
Intervarsity Campus Ministry (Nordquist)
Voice of Calvary
Wee Kirk Conference
Multiplication Network
Gideons
Chicagoland Prison Outreach
ELIM
Emmaus Ministries
Jones Community Center
Lansing Presbyterian Church
Friends for Youth
Metropolitan Family Services
Together we Cope
Trinity Christian College
PADS
Chicago Christian Counseling
Chicago Christian High School
Southwest Christian Schools
Kairos Outside
- over -
In addition to this wide range of ministries, PPPCC also supports our
youth group’s annual mission trip and service projects.
The church has gained a reputation throughout our community as a
place where people care for others due in large part to our efforts in
SON Weekend and SON Christmas as well as other service projects
that occur spontaneously to meet a community need.
To further support our initiative of Going in the Spirit of Service, the
church has sought to support Community Organizations that promote
healing and wholeness. Such organizations use our facilities during
the week. They are:
AL ANON
AA
Boy Scouts
Cub Scouts
Taking into account all the various ways in which we reach out to our
larger community, including our intentional ministry of publicity, the GO
in the Spirit of Service initiative includes:
● Support of Missionaries and Mission Agencies
● Funds for local missions including SON Weekend &
Christmas
● Support of our WF Mission Trip
● 25% of the Salaries for the Senior and Associate Pastors
● Evangelism Program Budget
● And the safe, clean usage of 10% of our facility

When the costs of salaries, facilities and programming are combined,
the percentage of our Ministry Plan resources dedicated to helping us
Go in the Spirit of Service is close to 23.2% of our annual budget. In
other words, when you put a dollar in the offering plate, 23 cents goes
directly to support the Missional and evangelism components of our
congregation.
Thank you.
Through your generous giving, we will be able to continue to shine the
light of God into this world filled with darkness.
