2
Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord,
Welcome!
Thanks for joining the Sacred Heart
worshiping community as we celebrate
our Eucharistic Liturgy for the 30th
Sunday in Ordinary Time. Your prayerful
participation enriches our Liturgy and brings
blessings to our community. May the Risen Lord
enlighten your mind with the words of Sacred
Scripture and nurture your faith with the Bread of
Life.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus is asked a question by
a “scholar of the Law.” It was a common question
asked and discussed by teachers and scholars of
the Law. “Teacher, which commandment in the
Law is the greatest,” asked the scholar. Jesus
responds by reducing the Law to two
commandments, we are to love God and love our
neighbor as ourselves. Although love is often
defined as “a deep and tender feeling of affection
for a person...a feeling of good will toward
another,” and at times linked to sexual attraction,
love is also an act of the will. The love that Jesus
desires goes beyond feelings or attraction. We
choose to love! It is an act of the will seen in one’s
caring for another through acts of love.
In Exodus today, the Lord expresses concern
for the “alien,” “any widow or orphan” and “your
poor neighbors.” Love calls us to “not molest or
oppress an alien.” In love we avoid wronging a
widow or orphan and extorting our neighbors.
Love calls for us to be compassionate, for as the
Lord says, “I am compassionate.”
Compassion is to be our response to those who
mourn the death of a loved one. We also witness
to compassion in our prayer for those who have
died.
Next Sunday, we will celebrate “The
Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed.”
Commonly known as All Souls Day, it is a day our
prayers are lifted up to God in memory of a
deceased loved one. We will have a special
Liturgy at 12:00noon remembering those buried
from our Church over the past year. The 2014
frame will be hung along with the frames for each
year since our founding in 1927, listing the names
of those we remember in prayer in the month of
November. May the rest in peace!
Be well! God bless,
Fr. McKee
I welcome our 6th Grade children and their
families to the 9:00am Liturgy. As they prepare to
receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, may we continue
to pray for them.

Inspiring Thoughts
of Pope Francis
"To love God and
neighbor is not something
abstract, but profoundly
concrete: it means seeing
in every person the face
of the Lord to be served,
to serve him concretely.

THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
Corner As
the
Eucharistic
Prayer
continues, the words of institution,
the words that Jesus spoke at that last dinner with
his friends, are repeated. This is the part of the
prayer that is probably the most familiar to us.
Following the words of institution, we pray for those
who have died and then we say the prayer that
Jesus taught his followers, commonly known as the
Our Father or the Lord’s Prayer. After we pray the
Lord’s Prayer, we offer one another the sign of
peace. More than just a time to shake hands or
exchange hugs, this piece is meant to symbolize
the unity of the congregation and allow us to bless
one another.
After this exchange of peace, we
pray the Agnus Dei: Behold the Lamb of God who
takes away the sins of the world. Then we enter
into the mystery of communion!
