TRUE stories & WHERE to find them:
The Resurrection of Jesus reported by Matthew (Matthew 28)
The Resurrection of Jesus was so dramatic, so unexpected, that everyone
who tries to tell us what happened tells
it a different way.
For one thing, the Gospel Writers, called
the Evangelists, didn’t actually see Jesus rise from the dead. Instead, they
report on what happened when people
started to find out.
In Matthew’s account in Matthew 28,
we have already read in chapter 27 that some of the people in charge
were afraid that the disciples would try to steal the body. For that reason they had posted a guard, and even put a seal over the stone. But
nothing could stop the Lord of Heaven and Earth from giving us eternal
life through his Resurrection.
When Sunday came, two women came to the tomb. Their names were
Mary Magdalene and “the other Mary.” After they arrived, there was an
earthquake! The angel of the Lord rolled the stone away from the tomb,
rolled it back, and then sat on it. The guards were still there but they all
fell down as if they were dead. The angel didn’t speak to the guards,
but only to the women. He told them that they could come and see
where Jesus’ body had been, but he was no longer there.
