TRUE stories & WHERE to find them:
The Resurrection of Jesus reported by Mark (Mark 16)
The Resurrection of Jesus was so dramatic, so unexpected, that everyone who tries to tell us what happens
tells it a different way. For one thing, the
Gospel Writers, called the Evangelists,
didn’t actually see Jesus rise from the
dead. Instead, they report on what hap-

pened when people started to find out.
In Mark 16, we have already read in chapter 15 that the body of Jesus was given to
his disciple Joseph of Arimathea. This Joseph (not one of the 12) had provided a linen shroud. He took the
lead in laying the body in a tomb and rolling the stone in front. Two
women noticed where Jesus’s body had been placed. Three women
came to the tomb the next morning with performed oils, planning to
anoint the body. They worried—who was going to roll back the
stone? (Some of the disciples had run away.) The stone was already
rolled away! When they entered the tomb they found a young man
sitting where the body had been. He told them to go to Galilee. The
women were so shocked they didn’t say anything to anyone. (That is
the short ending of Mark) Other versions of Mark say that he appeared to Mary Magdalene and that she told the disciples, who at

ST. BRENDAN LIBRARY CORNER
Hooray! Hooray! Lent is here! Don’t you just love
the way our church commemorates and celebrates
each time of the year? Lent is a time for looking
within, challenging ourselves and spiritual growth.
To make that a bit easier, come find a book—about
the saints? About spiritual direction? About Lent
itself? In our church library. The doors are always
open! How do I check out a book? Write a name,
phone number and current date on the card inside of
the book. Place the card in either the box on the
portable cart or in the box on the check-out table in
the library. Check out time is one month.
RCIA PROCESS
Are you or someone you know interested in finding
out more about how to become a Catholic? Come
join us for the RCIA, a process of discernment and
initiation into the Catholic faith. The process is one
in which you can ask your questions and explore the
basic tenets of the Catholic Faith. For more information, call Linda Haptonstall at the Parish Office or

NEW PARISH APP COMING IN MARCH!
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
In March, St. Brendan will launch our own App for iPhone and Android smart phones. This will allow us to
better communicate with you throughout the week and
keep you updated with relevant parish news or updates. The App is very well designed and very intuitive.
It will be a great resource for parishioners by providing
daily Mass readings, Catholic news and prayers, convenient prayer and confession reminders, our bulletin
and more. We hope for our new App to be a tool for
fostering stronger parish life at St. Brendan and better
engaging the new Evangelization. Please watch in the
coming weeks for our official launch announcement.

1ST SUNDAY OF LENT
The waters of Baptism make us part of the new covenant in Christ. But the Bishops’ pastoral letter on stewardship reminds us that “there is a fundamental obligation arising from the Sacrament of Baptism...that people place their gifts, their
