Parade in Key West
will be one of hundreds taking place nationwide, just as they have
since 1954 when President
Dwight D. Eisenhower
issued the first “Veterans
Day Proclamation” recognizing veterans of all wars.
The annual parade begins
at 4 p.m. at the intersection
of Duval and Julia streets.
The parade units will march
along Duval, passing the
reviewing stand at Duval
and Fleming streets, before
ending at Front Street. Joint
Interagency Task Force
South has been coordinating this year’s parade.
Thirty-eight organizations will participate in the
parade that features active
duty service members from
Coast Guard Sector Key

Task Force South, as well as
local veteran and community organizations.
Awards will be given after

s we know, Halloween has
come and gone in our
world. It is a holiday that
kicks off the holiday goodies to
follow.
My kids started this holiday
gorge with 15.6 pounds of candy. I
thank God for the dental coverage
through the Navy. My kids this year
were Elsa (both my daughters),
Indiana Jones and a police officer. My wife and I threw together
last-minute costumes. She was a
judge and I was a doctor. And we
had fun that night collecting the
bounty and seeing all the different
costumes out there.
However, my youngest daughter,
who is almost 2, did not like the
masks. She was scared of any mask
she saw, but when the mask was
removed, she was able to approach
and take the candy.
I could not help but think about
the masks we wear in life. Many
people wear these masks to put on
a facade to hide who they are to
others. They are afraid to be who
they are or feel that to be accepted
in this society they must be someone else.
However, we need to be who we
were created to be. No one on this
earth will ever be you. Even if you
were cloned today, the clone would
still be different than you because
they are growing up in a new generation with different norms. They
are not raised in the same family
as you. What makes a person is not
just their DNA, but the environment they grow in.
I love the imagery

is truly a work of art
watching this formation happen with every movement of the hands.
God is molding you and me. He
uses the good and the tough times
to shape us into the beauty we are
today and will continue to mold us
if we let him. You may view yourself
as just that clump of clay that has
no shape or beauty.
However, just as a potter sees
the potential, so does God see the
potential in all of us. And what
God will make out of you will be
a priceless work of art if you allow
Him. No one else will be shaped
and molded like you for all of time.
Think about that. No one can be
you ever again.
That also means you cannot be
anyone else. We can be like others, but we can never be fully that
person. We should strive to be like
Christ, but we must realize we will
not be Christ. As a result, we must
learn to accept who we are, stop
hiding where we came from and
see the beauty to come.
I know people say to leave your
past behind you. However, you
can never leave your past because
it made you the person you are
today. I counsel too many people
who have unresolved issues in the
past that tear them apart today. We
all have pain we must deal with.
One of my pains was my family’s divorce. I had to face that pain
because I found out it caused so
many other problems for me. And
now I use what I learned from that
to help others. I allowed God to
shape and mold it into something
beautiful. At one point, I used it to
help kids going through a divorce.
So know that God can do the same
with you if you will take off the
mask and be who you are.
If you need help taking off that
mask, come to the Truman Chapel
for services at 10:30 a.m. Sundays
or come see your chaplain, either

regional commanders officially dissolved as of Oct. 1.
The newly elected officers
are presented the opportunity to usher in a new era for
the chapter as a NFE.
“Although the Navy has
dissolved the program,
the current CSADD members at NAS Key West feel
the program is beneficial
and are taking on the challenge to establish as the
Southernmost CSADD,”
said NAS Key West CSADD
Sponsor ETC Latoya Blaine.
“Sailors I feel should join
CSADD because you would
be a part of making a difference amongst your peers
and motivate them to not
be out making destructive decisions but instead
being a part of an organization that is fighting to
prevent those decisions,”
said Browner. “CSADD is all
about bringing awareness
and if we can motivate or
change a handful of Sailors’
lives by continuing to bring
awareness, why wouldn’t
you want to be a part of
that?”
Though other NFEs exist
for junior enlisted Sailors,
CSADD focuses on peerto-peer mentorship and
leadership that will have a
positive effect on local command climates, said Hart.
NAS Key West CSADD is
currently creating their bylaws to officially establish
themselves as a NFE with
changes in officer position/

Awards
continued from page 1
Marine Corps Recruit
Depot Parris Island, S.C., was
recognized as the Marine
Corps Large Shore award,
earning a $45,000 prize.
Marine Corps Logistics
Base, Albany, Georgia, was
honored with the Marine
Corps Small Shore award,
earning $30,000 for their
program.
“We are very excited to
win this level award for
the third time in last four
years,” said Col. Donald
Davis, MCLB Albany Commanding Officer. “This
SECNAV level energy
award is in recognition
of the incredible efforts
by our teams at NAVFAC
Southeast and MCLB
Albany. The facility engineers and energy management experts worked
hard to reduce our energy
intensity [consumption]
by 40 percent and the
continued growth of our
renewable energy portfolio. I am confident that the
continued efforts of this
team will have us off the
grid by the summer of 2017
and additional recognition as the first ‘Net-Zero’
base in the United States
Marine Corps.”
Naval Station Mayport,
Florida, was recognized as
a Platinum Award winner.
Platinum levels of achievement indicate an outstanding energy program and an
exceptional year for energy
project execution. Winners
receive $5,000 each, to be
spent at the discretion of
the commanding officer to
encourage further energy
improvements.
“Naval Station Mayport
strives to be the leader
in energy conservation
and being selected as a
Platinum Award winner is
a testament to that effort,”
said Cmdr. Bo Palmer,
executive officer, Naval
Station Mayport. “It’s an all
-hands effort and a result
of increased awareness and
leveraging new technologies to capture energy efficiencies. Everyone working
and living on board this
installation deserves credit
in making this achievement
a reality.”
The awards program also
recognizes the accomplishments of commands that
achieved gold, or blue levels of achievement. The
Gold level of achievement
indicates a very good to
outstanding energy program. The Blue level of
achievement indicates a
well-rounded energy program. Winners receive a
certificate of achievement
in these categories. The following NAVFAC Southeast
bases received the noted
awards:

Attention Home Owner:
In the report, Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers done by the National Association of
Realtors, showed that 53% of buyers used the newspaper to look for a house. Last week,
the Keys Home & Real Estate along with the Florida Keys Free Press had over 85,000
readers. These are people that live in the county, here visiting and living out of state.
Now the question is, did they see your home? If you want your home to be seen by
the largest number of people who are looking to buy a home, then ask your Realtor
to place your home in the #1 publications in the Keys. If your home isn’t in here,
then give us a call and we’ll introduce your home to our loyal readers.
