Metra's calendar of EVENTS, that lets you know where all the HOT spots are!
By: [email protected]
Welcome my little pets! Normally I like to have a little fun in my column. But, today before
the silly begins I want to take a minute to educate (the youngsters) and celebrate Veterans Day.
Veterans Day is an official United States holiday that honors people who have served in the
U.S. Armed Forces, also known as Veterans. It is a federal holiday that is observed on
November 11th. It is the anniversary of the end of World War I (Major hostilities of World War
I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.) It was
originally known as Armistice Day. In 1945, World War II veteran Raymond Weeks had the idea
to expand Veterans Day to celebrate all veterans, not just those who died in World War I. Weeks
led a delegation to General Dwight Eisenhower, who supported the Idea of National Veterans
Day! I don’t know about you, but I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free
and I won’t forget the men and women who died, and gave that right to me! If it wasn’t for those
people and the ones who continue to serve I would not be able to write this column and you
would not be able to read it. Let freedom ring in Metraland!
