A decent Blonde heifer from Andrea Martin of Okehampton rose to 192ppk and Charolais females sold to 185ppk and £1140 for Tom & Emma Wotton of Moretonhampstead. South Devon heifers reached 176ppk and £1049 for David & Mary Stark of Denbury, Newton Abbot. Best Over Thirty Month cattle made to 175ppk for both a Simmental steer from John & Helen Keep of Moretonhampstead and a Charolais heifer from Tom & Emma Wotton. Top total price for older prime cattle was £1251, given for an Angus steer from Messrs Mills of Lapford. Barren Cows – Cows sold to a top of 148ppk for a smart Charolais from Tom & Emma Wotton with tremendous British Blue’s from Geoffrey Brown of North Molton selling to 139ppk, with his best realising £1168. A young South Devon from Paul & Rosie Fishleigh was knocked down for 140ppk as cows of the same breed from Simon Knight of Ottery St Mary hit 126ppk. As ever, a large contingent of heavy lamb consisted of some great pens and the top prices were dominated by a superb run from Robin Banks of Honiton returning to selling in Exeter market after many years of absence. His five pens of Charollais sired lamb tipped the scales between 52-53Kg and sold to £77.20, £76.50, £76.20 and £75.20 twice, while David Goss of Totnes sold Charollais sired shorn overweights to £76. More 52Kg’s at £73.20 for Micheal & Tom Hartnell also from Totnes, 51kg to £73 for Ken Luscombe of South Milton and 50Kg to £72.80 for Danny Folland of Witheridge who also sold 49Kgs at £74.20. 48Kgs reached £73 for Keith & Christine Morish of Cheriton Bishop as 47Kgs rose to £73.80 (157ppk) for Ray Toms also of Cheriton Bishop who also had 46Kgs at £71, a price matched by Richard Rogers of South Milton who sold others of the same weight at £70.20. 45Kgs topped at £68 for RD Middleton & Son of Ashreigney and £67.80 for Roy Gillard of Drewsteignton. Mashams traded to £94.50 again for Chris Walters while strong Mules were over £10 dearer on the week and sold to £87.50 & £79.50 for Lyneham Farms of Plymouth and £84 & £82 again for John Tucker with plenty in the £72-£80 range. Lean and lightweight ewes harder to place and trading similar or maybe a fraction less. Grazing ewes are beginning to look a more attractive prospect than store lamb for farmers with an abundance of grass. The candidate will have excellent customer service and communication skills, a methodical nature and the ability to work under pressure. Applicants need to be computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Office, organised and have a professional telephone manner. In addition, the successful candidate will be bright, cheerful, willing to help and quick to learn as well as have the ability to use initative and work confidently on their own or as part of a team. Likely duties will include dealing with clients face to face and by telephone, audio typing, and undertaking various administration duties (such as formal document preparation and be able to research basic information). A full UK driving licence is desirable and previous secretarial experience is an advantage. Immediate start available for the successful candidate. An interest in agricultural matters would also be advantageous. Working Hours: Monday to Friday 8.45am till 5.30pm but additional hours may be required from time to time.
