BECOMING CATHOLIC through R.C.I.A.
There are times when adults experience a spiritual
awakening. Maybe you are not baptized and have
thought about being baptized into a faith community.
Or maybe you have been interested in learning about
the Catholic Church and the time is right. Perhaps you
are the spouse of a Catholic and have been attending
Mass for many years, feeling yourself Catholic in many
ways but just never looked into formalizing it? Are you
interested in completing that relationship by formally
making a profession of faith, being confirmed and
taking an active part at the Eucharistic table? The
process through which adults become Catholics is
referred to as the R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation
of Adults). The year-long catechumenate process may
not be needed for everyone. Please call the church office
for details if you might be interested in discussing
further how you might complete your initiation into the
Catholic Church.
NEW SETS OF ENVELOPES will be made available
from the First Sunday of Advent, November 30th, 2014.
NEW SUNDAY MISSALS will be available for sale
from the weekend of November 8 & 9. The cost: $5.00
ADVENT WREATH CANDLES will also be for
sale from the weekend of November 8 & 9
for the cost of $10 a set.
YOUR PARISH PANTRY
Come Home for Christmas: Advent is the
time for all of us to return to God’s good
graces through sacramental confession. It
makes no difference how long we have been
away. The Lord loves us unconditionally.
Catholic Family Service Marriage Preparation
Courses: The dates for the next four courses are:
November 21 - 23, 2014, January 9 - 11, 2015,
and January 30 – February 1, 2015. For
registration/information please call Catholic Family
Service: 403- 233-2360 or at: www.cfs-ab.org.
On November 8 & 9 we celebrate
Catholic
Education Sunday, in
recognition of the wonderful work taking place
throughout the province in our Catholic schools. A
special collection will be taken, which provides you
with an opportunity to support Catholic education in
our community and to ensure the continued
success of our Catholic schools. Our Catechism of
the Catholic Church states that faith is a gift we
receive from family and community, a gift nurtured
by those around us and as receivers of faith we are
called to hand it on to others. Your generous
donation will support students through the Calgary
Catholic Education Foundation and St. Mary’s
University College as well as the seminarians at
Newman College. With almost 52,000 students
attending our Catholic schools the needs are many!
For each one of these students who have touched
your life please consider a donation of $5 per child.
On behalf of Calgary Catholic students we
thank you in advance for your generosity and
support.
YOUTH CORNER:
Thank You to the seventeen youth and their leaders who
attended our fourth opening night last Friday. The youth
meetings include prayer, service opportunities, games, food,
fun and fellowship. To celebrate the month of the Rosary, the
youth enjoyed the challenge of making colorful knotted rope
Rosaries which they took home and used for our candle light
Rosary. During the evening pizza was served and the favorite
Ninja game was played. The night concluded with a
discussion of our service projects for the year. PLEASE JOIN
US for next month’s Youth Meeting on FRIDAY NOVEMBER
21 at 7:00 pm in the hall. For more information call Dorothy
Loucks at 403-243-2874 or talk to the leaders Justin, Olivia
and Ryan.
A bishop was speaking at a college. During the
question and answer period, he was continually
harassed by a student in the back. The bishop
answered each of the student’s questions, but found it
harder and harder to keep from losing his patience.
Finally, the student asked, “Can you tell me for a fact
that Jonah lived for three days in the belly of a
whale?” “Tell you what” the bishop said, “When I
get to heaven, I’ll ask him.” “What if he is not
there?” retorted the student. “Then you ask him”
replied the bishop.
