THE COMMEMORATION OF ALL THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED All Souls Day We set today aside, particularly to pray for all who have died. Today’s Mass is a funeral Mass for all who have died. We believe that a soul must be pure to enter heaven. Sometimes we need assistance in being pure for heaven even if we do believe in God. If that is the case, this happens in Purgatory. Although there are many people who do not believe in Purgatory, there are Scripture references to it. I refrain from putting them here because they would be hard to understand if not explained due to language and culture differences. We may tend to think of Purgatory as a bad place, but it is a good place. There we are purified of all the sins in our life that kept us from entering fully into a deep relationship with God while on earth. What can be better than being totally pure before entering into Heaven and being with God for all eternity? Those in Purgatory are assisted in purification by the prayers of others, us, who are still living. All prayers for the dead are good, but in particular is the Mass. We believe as Blessed Paul VI said, that the Mass is the perfect prayer. Mysteriously, at Mass is present not only Jesus’ Body and Blood, but the whole event of His Passion Death and Resurrection. What is more prefect than praying with Jesus and bringing the very event of His Salvation for us present. This is why we offer Mass today and every day for those who have gone before us. Recently it seems more people are opting to have a Blessing service at a Funeral Home instead of a Funeral Mass. We will not refuse this request, but the best and most perfect prayer you can have for your loved one, to help with purification, is his or her funeral Mass. Please consider this when you are faced with a funeral in your family. Our Parish, besides celebrating all Masses this weekend for All souls since it falls on a Sunday, we will have our parish memorial Mass Monday evening, November 3 at 7:00PM. Our Lord dictated the following prayer to St. Gertrude the Great during her revelations to release 1,000 Souls from Purgatory each time it is said. It is centered on the Blood of Jesus Christ and the Mass. This prayer can also be found inside the front cover of the Glory and Praise books so you may pray it often. "Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the Universal Church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen." Bible Study The Bible Study on The Sacraments in the Scriptures continues on Monday evenings in the church at 7:30PM as follows: November 10 and 17. In addition, sessions will be held on Thursdays at 11:00AM in Biedenbach Hall on these dates: November 6, 13 and 20. (note— no Bible Study on Monday, November 3) Olive Wood Sales – shop early for Christmas On November 22 and 23 our brothers and sisters representing the Christian Catholic Families of Bethlehem will be selling Crucifixes, religious art work, and rosaries, - all made of olive wood which is native to Israel and Bethlehem. Since tourism has greatly depleted, Christian families in the holy land, who depend on tourists, have been greatly affected. Sale of these goods will help them and also give you the opportunity to have something authentic from the holy land. This is their main source of income. Please browse and buy some articles. It is for a good cause and also a help to your personal devotion. See Website: www.bcfmission.com Thank you for the PUMPKINS! Last weekend we had an anonymous donation of four crates of pumpkins for donations to be used for the school. We were able to raise $604.00 for the school. I appreciate your donation as well as the donations or pumpkins; this is the type of community supports that helps us continue Catholic Education. Please consider buying a 250 ticket if you have not done so. NEXT WEEK—Steel Drums at Mass– On Saturday, November 8, Leigh Pugliano’s family will be joining us at the 5pm Mass, providing us with beautiful Steel Drum music. Come experience this beautiful instrument as we praise our God. Peace of Christ, Fr. Tony Important message from a Parishioner: Grow in the Faith with Small Faith Groups for Couples Did you ever feel like you were being led to do something by the Holy Spirit? That's how I feel about this. My husband and I have had the pleasure of being involved with several small faith groups and feel compelled to start one at St. Bernadette's. The one we'd like to start is called, The Christian Family Movement (CFM). You can read more about it at http://www.cfm.org/home.html. The way it works is that couples meet at one another's homes once a month to pray, discuss a few pages of a CFM book, and enjoy the fellowship of one another. I have found great joy in being a part of small faith groups in the past; it's a great way to grow spiritually and get to know the "Body of Christ." If this is something that interests you, contact Alison Cooley by e-mail at [email protected] or at 412.496.9904. Please call after 3:00PM M-F (for clarification, this is not a group affiliated with Teams of Our Lady). ST.
