In doing so he acted in a very excellent and noble way, inasmuch as he had the resurrection of the dead in view, for if he were not expecting the fallen to rise again, it would have been useless and foolish to pray for them in death.”… “I am the resurrection and the life, says the Lord…” When we pray the Creed we speak of the Communion of Saints, those in glory, those walking together with us, and those awaiting entrance into the fullness of life in the Lord. The events of the past months teach us well. In April, the two great church leaders of the twentieth century were declared saints. Although we looked to them as both models and heroes, we now celebrate with them, and ask them to intercede for us. Following the death of Saint John Paul II, the crowds clamored ‘Subito’ soon. It is now a reality. We pray for the souls of the faithful departed, aware that our prayer unites us with them and fosters them on their journey to heaven, which is our destiny as well. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states: “All who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation, but they need to undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven.” May God Bless You All Rev.
