He is also a Jealous God who brought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. When he did this, he told the Israelites they were to have no other gods besides him. His message is the same for us. God wants us all for himself, not as a demanding dictator, but as a loving and compassionate Father. For this reason, he has given us the Ten Commandments, as orders of instruction informing us what we must not do, and telling us what we should do, if we truly desire to live according to his law which is always perfect. As we aim for Christian perfection, let us keep in mind the account of Jesus cleansing the temple. In doing so, we can easily focus on the anger of Jesus at those using the temple for their own selfish reasons. While this is vital to do, it is even more important that we recall the power of authority Jesus communicates with these words “Destroy this Temple and in three days I will raise it up”. He was speaking of the temple of his body. When he was raised his disciples remembered him saying this. As we continue our Lenten Journey, let us remember this: Jesus Died, Jesus Has Risen from the dead, and he lives to intercede for us, but he also challenges us to take up our Cross every day and follow him realizing our God is a jealous God. He wants us all for himself. The question for us to answer is: Do we want him in our life? We answer that question not only by the words we say, but how we live each and every day. We will arrange for a Priest to visit them. Visited this week were: Lucy Lobo, Catherine Gravino. Out of the Temple ST. GERARD MAJELLA SCHOOL presents John 2:13-25 When Jesus saw the moneychangers, merchants, sheep, oxen and doves at the Temple, he became angered, not because of what they were doing, but because of where they were doing it. The old law required animal sacrifice, so the availability of the proper animals for purchase wasn’t at issue. But making the act of worship into a commercial, for-profit enterprise by selling those animals within the Temple itself made a mockery of a sacred duty. Points to Ponder: When I attend Mass, am I fully aware that I am in the presence of God during that time?
