I want to say that I am so happy to have wonderful
residents and families supporting them/us. We have an
excellent team and are looking to share it with more
people! If you or someone you know of has an outgoing personality that loves to help others with a smile,
please contact us. We are always recruiting and love
volunteers.
This is a busy time of year coming up for all. Ever
wonder how things get so busy and we can’t seem to
slow down? Remember to take time for yourselves and
your families, it will feel good. It is okay to say “no”
and ask others for help. We are here to help and do want
If you are interested in volunteering at the Pigeon Falls Health Care Center,
please contact Lauren Filla at 715-983-2293 or [email protected]. We would love to have you!

third Thursdays of the month. Feel free to join us!
Church Street Community Club
Caregiver Support Program
Church Street Community Club is exited to announce that we are partnering with the Trempealeau
County Aging & Disability Resource Center to start a
Caregiver Support Group.
This group is for anyone caring for a loved one. At
times you may feel isolated and alone —we want to
provide a safe, relaxing and fun place to connect with
others that are feeling the same way. We hope that you
will not only make or reconnect with lifelong friends
but to bring you information that may help you along
the way.
Our first meeting is being held Thursday, November
13, from 2:00–3:00 p.m., at the Pigeon Falls Health
Care Center in the Maple Heights Dining room. Respite
and transportation are available.
to be doing the very best we can. If you have any suggestions for improvement, please share them!
Now, as the sun goes down earlier, we can look forward to getting a little more sleep/rest hopefully! Colder weather is here. Please check closets for your loved
ones to be sure they have a jacket, hat and gloves or
mittens in case they will be going outside.
After talking with some of our residents, to no surprise, we all have such different feelings about the
weather. Some are sad to see the nice weather go and
some are looking forward to the beautiful snow blanketing the earth. Some of us chuckle as to how we ended
up in Wisconsin because we are always cold!
The small blessings that cost nothing are most times
the best ones. We are fortunate for the good things that
have come our way this year, blessed that we have such
a wonderful facility and families filled inside. Each has
a unique special story to share that we love hearing
about.
We have been giving influenza (flu) vaccinations the
past couple weeks. This provides protection for respiratory diseases. Please keep everyone healthy by getting your flu shot too! If you have any sort of cough
or cold symptoms, we would prefer you wait to visit
until feeling better, however you may come and please
wear a mask. With the Ebola virus concerns, we would
prefer if you have visited the West Africa areas, please
monitor your health for 21 days closely and notify administration if you are visiting. Wishing you and your
family/friends a healthy winter season!
We Love Music!
The Pigeon Falls Health Care Center continues to
have music four times per month! We always have a
great time! Remember community members are welcome to come on in and enjoy the music with us!
Call the ADRC at 715-538-2001 or

Bonnie Nelson and Tricia Sprinkle enjoying
our music we have weekly!
We are selling Seroogy Chocolate Candy Bars, if you are
interested, for $1.50 per bar. All proceeds will go towards
the upkeep of our aquarium and aviary.

1, 2014. If you are interested in purchasing a light(s), please
contact Lauren Filla or Penny Paulson. Form is enclosed.

Kindergarteners!
According to the National Institute of Health:
People with Alzheimer’s disease may become
agitated or aggressive as the disease gets worse.
Agitation means that a person is restless or worried. He or she doesn’t seem to be able to settle
down. Agitation may cause pacing, sleeplessness,
or aggression, which is when a person lashes out
verbally or tries to hit or hurt someone.
hard for someone with Alzheimer’s. Try to keep a
routine, such as bathing, dressing, and eating at the
same time each day.
Most of the time, agitation and aggression happen for a reason. When they happen, try to find the
cause. If you deal with the causes, the behavior
may stop. For example, the person may have:
Reducenoise,clutter,orthenumberofpeople
intheroom. Try to distract the person with a favorite snack, object, or activity. Limit the amount
of caffeine, sugar, and “junk food” the person
drinks and eats.
CausesofAgitationandAggression
• Pain, depression, or stress
• Too little rest or sleep
• Constipation
• Soiled underwear or diaper
• Sudden change in a well-known place,
routine, or person
• A feeling of loss
• Too much noise or confusion or too many
people in the room
• Being pushed by others to do something
• Feeling lonely and not having enough contact
with other people
• Interaction of medicines
TipsforCoping
Here are some ways you can cope with agitation
or aggression:
Reassuretheperson. Speak calmly. Listen to his
or her concerns and frustrations. Try to show that
you understand if the person is angry or fearful.
Allowthepersontokeepasmuchcontrolinhis
or her life as possible. Coping with changes is
I Pods
Who loves music? If you answered yes, do you
think that your loved one does? An I pod is a great
gift for your loved one or a donation idea for our
facility. The Pigeon Falls Activity Staff will be
able to assist with putting music on the I pod if
needed. Also I Tune gift cards are always an idea
as well.
Donations:
The Pigeon Falls Health Care Center is always
looking for donations of bird seed, birthday cards
as well as fun sized candy bars. If you are interested in donating, please contact Lauren Filla!
Build quiet times into the day, along with activities. Keep well-loved objects and photographs
around the house to help the person feel more secure. Try gentle touching, soothing music, reading, or walks.
Herearesomethingsyoucando:
Slow down and try to relax if you think your
own worries may be affecting the person with Alzheimer’s. Try to find a way to take a break from
caregiving.
Euncie Moldenhauer assisting the kids
with their Leaf People!
On October 14, the Kindergarteners were
here for the first time this school year. This
time the kids had to come from Whitehall
via bus to visit us! We want to thank Whitehall School District for continuing to make
this happen even with the moving of the
classrooms out of Pigeon. The craft for this
month was making a leaf people. They all
turned out great! We want to also thank Mrs.
Shepherd for bringing the kids up! Much appreciated by all!
