An evening at Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb and the Water Mill
Clifton-upon-Teme WOMEN'S INSTITUTE, is a vibrant group of women who meet on the
second Tuesday of the month to enjoy a variety of speakers from in and around the area.
Meeting in the comfort of the Village Hall, they enjoy a lively informative talk, then social time
over a cup of coffee, with extra time to chat to the speaker. Talks can be as varied as local
charities, travel slide shows, health issues and current affairs.
Many women join the W.I. for friendship and to enjoy the talks and enjoy visits in and around
our county. There are also opportunities to attend events arranged for us by The Worcester
Federation of the W.I.; these include craft workshops, quizzes, singing for pleasure and
many others. The W.I. was initially set up to educate women in isolated communities. The
main aim is still the same, the education of women, be it in the home, in the workplace or
enjoying retirement. It is a great way of meeting and making friends from all walks of life.
Each meeting has a theme, and there are often competitions or displays of artefacts
or collector’s items.

Meetings are in Clifton Village Hall at 7:30pm, 2nd Tuesday in the month, except June and

The Book Club, Read, Enjoy and Discuss (READ), also meet in member’s homes six weekly
and read a variety of books and discuss their reactions to the books over a cup of
tea. There are two groups in the book club, one group meets in the afternoon and one
group meets in the evening. We do try and cater for everyone, arranging activities at a time
when as many as possible can take part.
June 2014 Garden Visit
The W.I. enjoy being an active part of the community and have in recent times provided teas
for funerals, groups visiting the area, and also a wedding buffet.
Why not come along, and bring a friend, you can come as a guest for two or three
times. You will find a very warm welcome awaits you and you will have time to enjoy the
speaker, chat over a cup of coffee or tea, probably find you know some of the people there,
and, we are sure that after this you will want to become a member. If you are new to the
area this is a fantastic way of meeting people and making new friends.
As a member you will enjoy a dedicated website which has a wealth of information on food,
cookery, recipes, art science, gardening, crafts, floral creations, leisure, competitions and
much more.
