World Teacher’s Day
World Teacher’s Day will be celebrated this Friday the 31st of October.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our teachers for their dedication
and commitment to providing a safe, happy environment and quality education for
our students. We will be taking time to show our appreciation with a special
morning tea on Friday.
FUN FAIR

2015 Planning
Planning for the 2015 school year has started.
An important part of this is being able to estimate our enrolment numbers to help
us work out staffing and classes. Families with children they wish to enrol,
knowledge of new families to the area and those considering leaving are asked to
contact us to assist with this process.

The Class Placement process for 2015 will soon begin. This process is undertaken
over a number of weeks and staff work hard to ensure we place children carefully

BPS CONGRATULATIONS
More than 125,000 South
Australian students from 683
schools completed the Premier’s
Reading Challenge.
Our school has been congratulated on our
outstanding results and two students and one
adult have been invited to attend the Premier’s
Reception on Friday 21st November at the
Sanctuary Function Centre, Adelaide Zoo.
Although this is also our Swimming Carnival, we
are so honoured to be invited that Mrs Cleary and
2 students will attend and represent all those who
completed the Challenge in 2014.
STUDENT FREE DAY
Friday 7th November has been agreed on for
this terms Student Free Day (day after the Family
Fun Night), by both BPS & BHS. Staff are undertaking data collation and 2015 planning. NB: Assembly moved to week before—Week 3 Oct. 31st

SRC PURCHASES
Recently the SRC purchased equipment for the
future discos. They now have a disco ball with
reflective lights, as demonstrated by Emma, a
four colour light chaser being held by Icelle and
Joseph is holding the LED party lights which are
multi-coloured when switched on. The SRC are
really excited about their purchases.

Last term Balaklava High enrolment packs were
sent home with each student. The return rate
has been astronomically low. This a compulsory
step in the transition of Yr7 to Yr 8. Please
locate your folder, complete and return. This is
the only way the High School will have to
communicate with you re next years

CREDIT UNION CHRISTMAS PAGEANT
There are 16 passes available for the Community
Section of the Pageant route. It is on Wakefield
Street, near toilets and is sectioned off for community groups. Wrist tags must be worn.

CHRISTIAN PASTORAL SUPPORT WORKER
On Monday this week we had a
“Be Kind to Someone” day, where the
children were encouraged to show
kindness to another person within the
school, and then record that act on a
hand-print which was then included on a banner.
The whole thing was part of the school’s
recognition of the Peace Run which passed
through Balaklava today (Thursday). The banner
of hands was presented to the Peace Run
organisers.
Being kind to someone often involves stepping out
of our comfort zone. It may involve something
that we would not “naturally” do and this takes
courage and sometimes brings with it a reaction
from those affected by the act.
In church recently we looked at the story of the
Good Samaritan, where a person was beaten up
and left on the side of the road. Three people
walked past the scene. The first was a priest and
the second was a Levite (a religious leader of the
time) and both men passed the injured person by
and offered no assistance. The third person on the
scene was a Samaritan, not a popular member of
society at the time. This person did not hesitate to
help the injured person, even putting him on his
donkey and taking him to the “hospital” of the
time and offering to return and pay for his
treatment.
CHRISTMAS HAMPERS
Each year Christmas Hampers are supplied by
the Christian Churches and the community of
Balaklava through the SWAP shop to people in
need in the local communities.
This year the SWAP shop has put together an
application form, which is to be completed and
returned to me at Balaklava Primary School by
Friday November 28th. The hampers will be
available to successful applicants from Tuesday
December 9th.
If you would like to apply for a Christmas
hamper, please collect an application form from
the front office of Balaklava Primary School and
return it to me as soon as possible. Hampers will
be limited so please act promptly.

We are again running our fabulous 10
Monster Raffle this year. Each class
collecting items and we hope that every
is able to donate something. Goods can
be received as of now —Thank You.
Raffle Books will be coming home soon.
Whilst this story is not spectacular, and was told
to prove a point, it does bring to light the need for
all of us to be prepared to help when the need
arises. These occasions will not always be
“convenient” and may cause us some discomfort,
but showing kindness to someone in need should
be a natural part of our lives. No reward is
necessary, just the knowledge that you have
made the other person’s life and situation just a
little better by your action.

Our expectations are that all children will be available for the twilight outdoor concert which they
have been working on in their music lessons term
3 and 4 and enjoying immensely. The concert will
start around 6.30pm after the fun stalls and tea.
There will be opportunities for buskers and performances by the school concert band and choir.
Hopefully it won’t be too hard or stressful to find
gear but will be great if each child could be in a
costume. Your teachers may also help you with
ideas.
