Pastor’s Letter
Dear Parishioners,
Mother Teresa of Calcutta gave a rousing reflection on how her
sisters and brothers, The Missionaries of Charity, serve Jesus in the
poorest of the poor, her listeners were deeply inspired. A middle-aged
woman came up to Mother Teresa after the talk and remarked to her,
“Mother Teresa you are a saint.” The aging Albanian dressed in the
simple white sari with blue trim fixed her eyes on the woman of the
world and rightly responded, “Aren’t we all called to be saints?”
Last Friday, Halloween (All Halos Eve), the vigil of the great feast
of All Saints all Catholic school students were off. When I first heard it
I was surprised. I had not remembered that schools were not in
session on Halloween. Then I learned that 3,500 Catholic School
educators from our 122 elementary schools, 17 high schools and four
schools of special education as well as private Catholic and Independence Mission Schools were invited by Archbishop Charles Chaput to
his first “Archbishop’s Day for Teachers and Administrators.”
At the gathering, our shepherd, Archbishop Charles presented a
Pastoral Letter. The title, “Equipping Saints” was appropriate for the
following day and indeed every day. Archbishop Charles encourages
teachers and parents and all of us to realize that our young people
learn from what they are taught and what they read, but that our
example is so so important. We serve as role models whether we
would like to or not.
As we desire and strive to live saintly lives so will our young
people follow our example. The Archbishop’s letter is not long and is
very inspiring. In this month when we pray for all souls and celebrate
the saints may we recognize our call to live our lives anew for and with
Jesus now and for ever.

MASS FOR ALL SOULS
Happy to know others are praying for our
loved ones.
After Mass parishioners took time to catch up with old
friends. Sharing a tale or a word or two about our beloved
deceased brings a lot of healing.
In order to help us prepare for the World Meeting of Families and the anticipated
visit from Pope Francis, a catechism on family life entitled Love is Our Mission: The
Family Fully Alive, has been prepared. You can order a copy of this beautifully illustrated
catechism and learn about the World Meeting of Families at WorldMeeting 2015.org.
ovember 2014: Chapter 1: Created for Joy
“Love is Our Mission” because love is our origin and destiny. Created in the image of God, a human being is
created for communion, which means that loving God and neighbor is the reason for our existence. Catholics
believe these things because of Jesus, our bedrock and cornerstone. Jesus suffered and yet persevered in love;
he was crucified and yet rose again. In Jesus, we believe that the Creator of the universe became one of us,
revealing not only who God is, but also who we are created to be and become. In a world of anxiety and
doubt, Jesus is trustworthy. When we follow Jesus, body and soul, even when it hurts and requires sacrifice,
we are living lives of integrity, for only in living this way will our lives coincide with the reason for our existence. This brings us great joy. We sin and stumble, but the God we meet in Christ is faithful even when we
are not. God’s forgiveness is a gift that gives us back to ourselves, enabling us to embrace our mission and
destiny anew. Catholic sacraments and moral teachings show what Christ –like love looks like in particular
situations. Catholic life summons us to heroism and adventure even in ordinary daily life. The world is
charged with the beauty and grace of God, and neighbors who need our love and kindness are all around us.
Please keep reading the Love Is Our Mission catechism for more! ~ Dr. Christopher C. Roberts, editor, Love
is Our Mission Preparatory Catechism.
Did you know? The World Meeting of Families event was established by Pope St. John Paul II in 1994. It is
held every three years in cities across the world. 2015 is the first time it will be in the United States. Its goals
are (1) to strengthen family bonds and (2) to give witness to the fundamental role of the family in society.

The Penitential Act of the Mass often referred to as the I
confess, Confiteor or Lord have Mercy calls us to recall our
sins and to recognize just how grave they may be. They
separate us from the life giving river of God’s love fully
when mortal sin is involved and partially with venial sins. In
our missalette on page 7 we read under the heading
“Penitential Act” The celebration of God’s mercy takes one
of the following forms. We ought to recall with our sins that
God’s mercy is infinitely greater. Our reconciliation with
God (the sweet spot of a full openness to God’s transforming grace) begins with our sorrow and culminates in the
Sacraments and in particular with the Sacrament of
Reconciliation. When you pray the Penitential Act offer
your sins to God and then meditate on Jesus’ infinite love
for you. Be filled with that love, be filled to overflowing.

PARISH CHRISTMAS BAZAAR
Our Parish Christmas Bazaar is quickly approaching and we need some volunteers for donations, baking and
creativeness. If you are interested in helping out in any way here are suggestions.
Donations of new items for our punchboard give away table. These items can be anything from a small appliance, a toy, household or decorative item. Any new items are welcome.
Get your creative juices flowing by making a themed basket for our basket raffle. These baskets are put together by parishioners and in the past have consisted of all types of themes such as: Movie Basket; Italian dinner basket; Cookie/Cake making basket, Winter Wonderland basket, etc. A basket doesn’t even need to be
used, just use your imagination.
As always the weekend of the bazaar we will also be asking for our wonderful bakers to turn on those ovens and
make your specialties for our baked goods table.
If you are interested in any of the above please contact the rectory and let us know so we have an idea of what
we will have ahead of time. These items can all be dropped off at either church after the masses or at the rectory. If you need an item picked up from your home this can also be arranged through the rectory. Thank you
for your generosity to the parish.
