There were three youngsters from OLHC and six adults in a team which consisted of both priests and deacon and three mothers. It was a great success! Approximately two hundred youth attended throughout the day. There was adoration throughout, sacred songs, talks and a Eucharistic Celebration. BLESSING OF PETS The Feast of St. Francis Assisi took place on October 4th. It rained, but we went ahead with the blessing of animals at 10 AM as planned. A good number of pets were there in spite of the inclement weather. SCHOOL FUND RAISER October Fest also took place last Saturday. There were plants, mums, Halloween decorations, bouncy rides, some entertainment, etc. It was a success; the parents and children enjoyed themselves-the rain did not stop them. MASS AND VENERATION OF ST. JOHN PAUL II RELIC Last Monday evening, Mass was concelebrated with Fr. Frank Pavone. He spoke and distributed flyers of the Pro Life Movement and Missionaries of the Gospel. One hundred and fifty people attended. Light refreshments were served afterwards. Our heartfelt thanks to Vinny Costagliola and Jackie Jacknow. MASSES: 4:30 PM AND 9:30 AM: FAMILY AND CHILDREN MASS Thanks to teachers and catechists who promote these Masses and are making sure the students take home their cards and bring it to church on Saturday or Sunday. The procedure is simple: priest or deacon initials it and returns it to the teachers/catechists to give back to the students. To achieve the parish goal, we need maximum cooperation from all: if students come to Mass it is our obligation to make it as meaningful as possible to them. Hence, the ushers, Eucharistic Ministers, lectors, musicians, priests and deacons all must do their best to help make this happen. Ushers, please get students involved. The teachers and catechists assign six students; two for each aisle. It is up to you to direct and guide them. Children are the gift-bearers as well. One student from each class grades 1-4 will be assigned by the teachers and catechists to partake in the entrance and exit processions with the priest or deacon. Parents, please encourage your children. Adult lectors will accompany students. Once again, the teachers and catechists will assign the lectors. If chosen, you can go on-line to both read and listen to the readings. It is easy; just google Sunday Readings. I ask the musicians to select simple, children friendly hymns; I will e-mail you some every week. There is a need to rehearse before Mass; even the ones we sing regularly such as Holy Holy Holy, etc. I know that it is all new to some, but music makes a big part of the celebration. I also recommend that all stay in the church until the recessional hymn is over. Last Sunday, a Serious Remark by a concerned parishioner was brought to my attention after the 9:30 AM Mass. A father remarked: ‘Two adults were talking during the entire Mass: even through readings, homily and consecration”. They were a great disturbance to all nearby. I could not believe my ears! I will not tolerate such behavior in church! If anybody feels that way, please bring it to my attention. PPC MEETING The first PPC meeting of the year will be held on Monday, October 13th at 7:30 PM in the lower church. I ask that all former members and new ones whom I have appointed to attend. It is not a walk-in council meeting. BOXED SETS OF OFFERING ENVELOPES: The 2015 envelopes have arrived. They will be made available in the beginning of November. Please consult the bulletin as to the exact date. There are no more 2014 envelopes available. If you do not have any, please put your name, amount and envelope number on a plain white envelope. MYSTERIOUS ENVELOPE For several months, we have been receiving a mysterious envelope with no name, just the number 5-2-58 which is invalid. I ask that the person who is submitting these envelopes please call the rectory so you can be assigned a legitimate number and your account can be credited correctly. GOLF OUTING I am pleased to report that the 2014 Golf Outing netted a profit of $14,300. Once again, I thank all involved for your hard work and dedication. Have a blessed week! Fr. Second Reading: Philippians 4:12-14, 19-20 In simple, direct words, Paul thanks the Philippians for alleviating his hardships. He stresses, though, that he is as accustomed to poverty as to abundance and finds all his strength in Christ. Gospel: Matthew 22:1-14 Once more speaking to the chief priests and the elders, Jesus relates the parable of the wedding banquet. A King, preparing a wedding banquet for his son, summons all the invited guests. When, after several invitations, no guests arrive, the King commands his servants to “go out into the byroads and invite anyone you come upon.” Again, Jesus warns the elders, “the invited are many, the elect are few.” 28th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME – OCTOBER 12, 2014 WORLD MISSION SUNDAY-OCTOBER 19, 2014 Next Sunday, there will be a second collection for World Missions. As described by Pope St. John Paul II, World Mission Sunday is "an important day in the life of the Church because it teaches how to give: as an offering made to God, in the Eucharistic celebration and for all the missions of the world”. Please be as generous as your blessings allow.
