Milwaukee Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota
Editor: Jill K. Anderson
Message from Tammy Enevold, President:
Dear Sisters,
Noooooo, it cannot be August already! We've had gorgeous weather and I could enjoy a
month or two more of this! SAI has been like my garden: I love it, but I rarely get any time to
work in it. I think of you and all of our summer get-togethers that I am unable to attend and
miss you dearly. But never fear, the program committee has planned a program, we have
hostesses, the fundraising committee has been hard at work and the newsletter is now 'in
your hands'. So what is your role this year? Do you know a business or a someone that
could contribute a great silent auction item? Do you have a favorite 1940s recipe that you
could make? What about costuming? Entertainment? Bringing people or encouraging patrons
to attend? A word of encouragement to a committee member? (They are beautiful, but these
SAI roses are a little wilted by the time they finish). Yes, I know that I focused entirely on the
fundraiser, but it is the climax of our fall symphony. Please come to our enthusiastic
September meeting and share in the excitement for the whole SAI year! May the last rose of
summer be yours. Your sister in ΣAI,
Tammy

Sunday, September 14, 3 PM, Formal Business Meeting and Dinner
Home of Suzanne Freshley, 7108 W. Dove Court, Milwaukee
The formal business meeting, including Initiation and Honors will be followed by a light
dinner.
Note: The cost of the dinner is $9 per person, payable at the meeting.
Directions: 7108 W. Dove Court is in the gated community called “Villas at
Granville,” just south of Brown Deer Road on 72nd Street. Take Hwy 43 to exit 82B
(Brown Deer Road West), and go west to 72nd Street. You will see Krause Funeral
Home on your left just before 72nd Street. Turn left (the only way you can turn) and
go to the dead end. (If you take Hwy 45, exit at Good Hope Road, take Good Hope to 76th
Street and turn left, take 76th Street to exit for Brown Deer Road and go a short distance to
72nd Street and turn right.) You will see a sign before the dead end telling you that
“Villas at Granville” is ahead. Turn left into the drive and stop at the gate. Using the
phone at the gate, dial 040. That will ring Suzanne's phone and she will trigger the gate
to open. Drive just past the large Activity Center on your right and turn right
immediately. Go to the first court past the Activity Center, which is Dove Court, and
turn right. If you drive straight, Suzanne's home is the last home on the right. There is
a berm in the middle of the court with four parking spots, and two cars can park
outside her garage. In addition, there are ten spots on the side of the Activity Center.
NOTE: Follow these directions! Don't rely on your GPS. It may not give you accurate
directions. Also, carpool if possible. Suzanne's phone number is 414-365-3905.

A group of chapter members and
guests toured The Sanfilippo Estate in
Barrington, IL on July 17: This world-renown
estate houses the largest collection of
harmoniums and musical instruments in the
world. The day trip to The Sanfilippo Estate
was really amazingly wonderful! This collection
consists of hundreds of automated music
machines, victrolas, disc players, organs,
orchestrations, violin machines, IN ADDITION
to the opulent residence, collections of chandeliers from
movie houses and theaters, etc., etc., etc. We had
demonstrations of many of the machines and a mini
concert from the digitized concert organ in the theater
built especially for such occasions. The additional surprise
was the building that houses the Eden Palais Carousel. It
is just too much to explain! If there is interest, we will plan
another trip!! I'd love to go again. --Marie Zellmer

A Message from Martha Stoner, VP-Membership
Dear Sisters,
I’ve been thinking about how important it is for us to support each other. I remember when
Marilyn Minor was around and singing recitals. She was always disappointed that we didn’t
come to any of her recitals. When I went to the String Academy concert in July, it was lovely to
see Darcy’s students and the results from their work. It would be nice to have a few people
there who aren’t parents. I have to say I was disappointed a couple of summers ago when I
sang in a recital and none of my sisters came. Please let us know when and where you are
performing or your students or your children and let’s see if we can get a few more sisters to
attend. Suzanne, Marj and I are singing with Master Singers this year. This is the schedule.
We’d love to have you come.

Don’t forget to ask sisters who live near you to come along. We would love to get increased
attendance this year! If you haven’t been coming, you’ve missed some excellent programs and
you’ve been missed. We want to interest young sisters in to joining us and I expect they’d
prefer an exciting, thriving sisterhood.

Are you a member of the National ΣAI Alumnae Association? Having
paid for Life Membership when you graduated from college does not
make you a member of the Alumnae Association. The former Life
Membership entitles you to receive Pan Pipes but nothing else.
Before the Alumnae Association was created, national dues were
collected along with local dues. Each chapter treasurer sent in the national dues for
members of the local chapter. Each ΣAI Alum is now responsible for sending in her
own national dues ($35). Full information about the Alumnae Association can be found,
and dues can be paid, at www.sai-national.org. Click on “Membership” and then
“Alumnae Association.” Alumnae Association dues must be current to receive awards
or honors. Alumnae Association dues support the goals and mission of Sigma Alpha
Iota. Not sure if you are a member of the National Alumnae Association? If you don’t
receive the newsletter, Tempo!, you are not a member of the Alumnae Association.
