CONSIDERATION OF OUR CHRISTIAN COMMITMENT: ORDINARY TIME THANKSGIVING
This month of November reminds us of the many reasons
we have to give thanks throughout our parish and in our
daily lives. Some happy occasions are listed below:
Center in Walker. Though not an official ministr y of the
parish, parishioners do work in this ministry, and it was
good to welcome them.
Our Children’s Choir was photographed a few weeks
ago at their weekly practice on Wednesday evening at

opportunity
to

Jerry Denton and Councilman Rene Delahoussaye a tour of
the Faith Formation Center. I wish you could have heard all
the compliments they shared with us about what we have
done together.
5:30. They sang at St. Joseph Cathedral toward the end of
October and will sing Thanksgiving Eve for our Thanksgiving Eucharist. They will be singing again Christmas Eve
and occasionally sing on Sunday at the 11:00 Eucharist. We
thank them for their ministry and thank also Simon Pfeil and
Glenn Forbes who minister with them. Any youth who may
wish to join them can do so, by simply showing up for
practice Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m.
We celebrated God’s gift of forgiveness sacramentally
this past week with 103 of our younger parishioners as
they gathered with family to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. They celebrated with the Good Shepherd who
seeks out his sheep, and carries them
on his shoulder. This week, we will
continue the celebration in the rectory when they come to class and are
taken by teachers to the rectory for
cookies and soft drinks. We thank
Barbara Normand, the parents and
teachers who prepared them for this special time and wish
these young parishioners God’s every blessing as they prepare for First Eucharist later during the Easter Season.
As we moved into November, the parish was able to host
the Taste
Fair and
Auction
offered by
the Women’s
Resource
One of our Leadership goals is to have more young adults
involved in Leadership Night and in
parish ministries, so
it was good to welcome Jeffrey Wale
(speaking at left with
Durwin Walker) to
Leadership
Night
two weeks ago. Jeffrey has a history of
working with the
parish in leadership roles from his high school days. When I
arrived in the parish five years ago, he was on the transition
team, representing youth. Soon after, studies at L.S.U., and
moving out of the parish forced him to let go of active ministries in the parish. Jeffrey recently moved back to Denham
Springs, passed the bar exam and has been sworn in as an
attorney. One of the first things he did upon returning to the
parish was contact me about becoming involved again in
ministry. He will work with the parish on Leadership
Nights, visiting the different commissions, and putting together a report for the parish on how things are going. This
role is a “work in progress” and we will see how it goes and
tweak it in the coming months. We thank Jeffrey and the
other young adults who are stepping forward to assume responsibilities in the parish.
When there are so many parishioners seeking to share the
forgiveness and the love of Christ in so many ways, there is
good cause of thankfulness as we move together toward
Thanksgiving. Let us pray for each other; Love,

God’s plan for your life could be
the Catholic Church
R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian
Initiation of Adults)
There will be a meeting for all sponsors on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 7 p.m.
The Inquiry R.C.I.A. Sessions will come to an end on Thursday,
November 20. The inquirers have been attending weekly sessions since August and have been learning about our Catholic
faith. Saturday, November 22, the inquirers will be assigned a
sponsor to serve as their companion during the next stage of
their journey.
Next Sunday, November 23, the Rite of Welcome/Acceptance
will be held at the 9 a.m. Mass for the inquirers who have made
the decision to enter into the Order of Catechumens and continue their journey of faith. The Rite of Welcome/Acceptance is
the first of the public rites celebrated in the R.C.I.A. During this
important ritual, the inquirers publicly declare their intention to
continue their journey toward full initiation into the Catholic
Church, and we (as the Church community) accept them and
offer our support. Please join with us next week in the celebration as we present the catechumens and candidates to the
Church community, share in their journey and offer our prayers.

start over with our basic topics so now is a great time to
join. Each class focuses on a differ ent faith topic. Our
goal is to be able to equip ourselves to give informed explanations of our beliefs. There is no commitment and no registration fee. Join us on Thursday nights at 7 p.m. upstairs in
our new Faith Formation Center.

Holiday Bazaar—November 15/16
A Holiday Bazaar sponsored by the Ladies Guild of
ICC will be held in the Main Hall on Saturday, November 15, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, November
16, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jambalaya and tamales will
be available (eat in or carry out). Make plans to attend
and buy some early Christmas gifts with the arts and
crafts available and some delicious food. Various raffles will be available also. Hope to see you there!
FREEZER FRIENDS—This ministry is for the needs of
individuals and families, whether they are parishioners or not, who may find themselves in situations
where cooking and grocery shopping may be a
temporary hardship. Maybe you have a neighbor, co-worker, family member or someone
you know who would benefit from a few meals already cooked to help them in their time of need.
Please know that any parishioner is welcome to make use of
this ministry whether you have contributed to the freezer or
not. Please call the church office at 665-5359 or come by
during office hours.
We are so grateful for the generous parishioners who have

On September 24, 2013, four days after starring in a Varisity football game, Monroe
Lockhart was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). In one week he went from

has been a whirlwind of a year for the entire family, especially Monroe, who is presently in our Confirmation process this year. During this month of November, Monroe
and his family are celebrating one year of remission! In
thanksgiving to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, for
all they have done for Monroe, a 5K walk will take place
to raise funds to help other children in this battle. Your
donations help families never receive a bill from St. Jude
for treatment, travel, housing or food. St. Jude freely
shares the breakthrough it makes and every child saved at
St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use
that knowledge to save thousands more children.
